The Tesla Model Y 0.99% APR promotion behind the “below Model 3” headline was a historical U.S. offer: Notebookcheck reported that eligible orders had to be placed by May 31, 2024. Its lower-payment comparison relied on estimates and a then-available federal tax credit; it did not show that the Model Y had a lower sticker price than the Model 3. Tesla’s U.S. offers result accessed in 2026 showed different advertised rates, subject to eligibility and other terms.
What the 0.99% APR Model Y offer included
Notebookcheck reported in 2024 that Tesla’s promotion offered 0.99% APR financing on eligible U.S. Model Y orders placed by May 31, 2024. The article described a maximum loan term of 72 months and a down payment of 8–10%, reported as $4,336 across the variants it discussed. These are the terms reported for that promotion, not current Tesla financing terms. Notebookcheck’s May 2024 report
Why the headline said the Model Y payment was below the Model 3
The comparison was about estimated monthly payments, not a like-for-like comparison of vehicle prices. Notebookcheck reported these figures for the 2024 offer:
| Vehicle and basis | Reported monthly payment |
|---|---|
| Model Y Long Range RWD, before the reported tax credit | $602 |
| Model Y Long Range RWD, after applying the then-available $7,500 federal tax credit | $498 |
| Comparable Model 3 payment cited in the article; the article said it did not qualify for that federal program | $607 |
| Model Y Performance AWD, before the reported tax credit | $695 |
| Model Y Performance AWD, after applying the then-available tax incentive | $591 |
These are figures reported by Notebookcheck, not independently recalculated quotes. The comparison depends on the tax-credit treatment described in that 2024 article, as well as the loan assumptions behind its payment estimates. It does not establish that every buyer qualified for the credit or that the same payment was available to every applicant. A monthly payment also does not reveal the vehicle’s cash price or the total amount paid over the loan.

What Tesla’s U.S. offers showed in 2026
Tesla’s U.S. current-offers result accessed in 2026 advertised 1.49% APR for specified Model Y trims and 1.99% APR for specified Model 3 trims, each for up to 72 months. The result also noted eligibility, order-date and minimum-down-payment requirements, and that rates and estimates can change and not all applicants qualify. The exact eligible configurations and full terms should be checked on Tesla’s U.S. Current Offers page before ordering; the available page result did not establish a fully matched Model Y and Model 3 quote pair.
Why a monthly-payment comparison can mislead
APR and loan term affect the payment, but they do not make two financing offers equivalent by themselves. To compare a Model Y offer with a Model 3 offer, check the same market and order period, the exact vehicle configuration, the amount financed and down payment, fees, loan length, and whether a final or balloon payment applies. Then account for any tax-credit assumption and the buyer’s eligibility for it. A marketing estimate is not the same as a lender’s individualized quote.

Regional promotions should not be conflated. For example, Tesla China’s campaign page, updated October 1, 2026, described separate offers through October 31, 2026, including qualifying one-to-five-year 0% plans and a five-year flexible plan with a 20% final payment and an annualized rate from 0.99%. Lender lists and down-payment thresholds vary by plan. Those China-market terms are not evidence of a U.S. APR offer. See Tesla China’s campaign page.
