Several serious Tesla-related attacks were investigated or prosecuted in 2025, but they were not all the same kind of event. The public record separates peaceful protests from vandalism, gunfire, alleged arson, attempted arson, incendiary-device discoveries, and fires whose causes remained unknown. The FBI said incidents occurred in at least nine states and appeared to involve lone offenders acting at night; it did not publicly establish a single nationwide command structure.

Below is a case-by-case account of what was reported, what prosecutors alleged, and which matters reached a guilty plea or sentence.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Short answer: Tesla-related protests in 2025 included lawful demonstrations and a separate series of reported property crimes, suspected arsons, shootings, and incendiary-device incidents. The FBI said attacks on Tesla vehicles, dealerships, storage lots, and charging stations had occurred in at least nine states, generally at night, and that the known incidents appeared to involve lone offenders. Publicly available evidence does not establish a single nationwide command structure or prove that every incident was organized by protesters.

The most advanced cases include federal charges in Salem, Oregon; Loveland, Colorado; Albuquerque, New Mexico; North Charleston, South Carolina; Kansas City, Missouri; and Las Vegas, Nevada. Ian William Moses was sentenced in the Mesa, Arizona, case after pleading guilty. In other incidents, including a fire that damaged four Cybertrucks in Seattle, the cause or motive remained unresolved in the sources reviewed.

That distinction matters: a peaceful protest, graffiti, vandalism, gunfire, an attempted arson, a confirmed fire, an arrest, and a conviction are not interchangeable facts.

Why Tesla became a protest target

Tesla became a political target after CEO Elon Musk took a prominent role in the Trump administration and its Department of Government Efficiency. Protesters associated Musk with proposed or actual reductions in the federal workforce and government programs. The Associated Press reported that Tesla faced protests and vandalism in the United States and elsewhere after Musk’s role in the administration became more prominent.

That political background explains why some demonstrations used anti-Musk or anti-Tesla slogans. It does not, by itself, establish who committed a particular crime, whether the person acted alone, or whether an incident was coordinated with a protest group.

How to read the case status

Investigation: Police or federal agents are examining an incident. This does not mean a suspect has been identified.

Arrest: A person has been taken into custody. An arrest is not a finding of guilt.

Criminal complaint or charge: Prosecutors have alleged that a defendant committed an offense. The allegations must still be proved in court, and the defendant is presumed innocent.

Guilty plea: The defendant has admitted guilt under a court proceeding. This is different from an unproven allegation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sentence: The court has imposed a punishment. Restitution or other proceedings may still remain.

The most serious federally charged cases

Salem, Oregon: Molotov cocktails followed by gunfire

Federal prosecutors charged Adam Matthew Lansky in connection with two incidents at the same Salem dealership. According to the Department of Justice account, surveillance video allegedly showed Lansky throwing Molotov cocktails that struck the dealership and vehicles on Jan. 20, 2025. Investigators later linked him to damage on Feb. 19 that appeared to have been caused by bullets fired into the building and at least one vehicle.

The case was investigated by the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Salem police. The DOJ release described a criminal complaint, so the reported conduct should be treated as an allegation unless and until a later court disposition establishes otherwise.

Loveland, Colorado: repeated alleged attacks

The DOJ said Lucy Grace Nelson was arrested after multiple alleged vandalism incidents at a Loveland dealership on Feb. 7, Feb. 11, and Feb. 24. Investigators reportedly found gasoline, bottles, and wick material in her vehicle. A March 20 DOJ announcement described the case as involving an attempt to ignite Teslas with Molotov cocktails.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The available official material establishes the arrest and the prosecution’s allegations. It does not establish a final conviction or sentence, so the Loveland incidents should not be presented as adjudicated facts.

Albuquerque, New Mexico: Tesla showroom and Republican Party office

A Tesla showroom in Albuquerque was set on fire on Feb. 9. DOJ court documents and a later release said two vehicles were involved, one was significantly damaged, and an intact glass container containing improvised napalm material was found in a vehicle. Red-and-black graffiti, including anti-Musk and anti-Tesla phrases and swastika symbols, was reported on the building and vehicles.

Federal prosecutors later charged Jamison Wagner in connection with that fire and a second fire at the Republican Party of New Mexico headquarters on March 30. The political headquarters was not Tesla property, but prosecutors treated the incidents as part of the same alleged sequence based on surveillance evidence, similarities at the scenes, and forensic links. The second fire damaged the front door and entry area, involved homemade incendiary devices, and included ICE=KKK graffiti, according to the DOJ release.

Wagner was charged, not convicted, in the cited material. The DOJ expressly stated that the complaint contained allegations and that he was presumed innocent.

North Charleston, South Carolina: charging-station fire allegations

The DOJ reported that a defendant in Charleston wrote profane political messages near Tesla charging stations and then used Molotov cocktails to set the stations on fire. The department’s March 20 announcement said the charges carried a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison. The reviewed source does not provide a later disposition or establish that the defendant acted on behalf of a protest organization.

Kansas City, Missouri: Cybertruck fire and destructive-device charge

Two Cybertrucks at a Kansas City dealership caught fire on March 17. The federal complaint concerning Owen McIntire described a suspected incendiary device near a burning Cybertruck. The DOJ later said McIntire was charged with unlawful possession of an unregistered destructive device and malicious damage by fire.

The public materials reviewed establish the charges and allegations, but not a final sentence. It is therefore more accurate to describe this as a federally charged suspected-arson case than as a conviction.

Las Vegas, Nevada: the case with a guilty plea

At a Tesla collision center in Las Vegas on March 18, Paul Hyon Kim allegedly spray-painted the word RESIST, fired a gun into vehicles, and threw Molotov cocktails. The DOJ said five Tesla vehicles were damaged, two Molotov cocktails exploded, and another failed to detonate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Unlike the cases that remained at the complaint or arrest stage, Kim later pleaded guilty in February 2026 to two counts of arson, attempted arson, and unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm, according to the DOJ release. That release said sentencing was scheduled for May 27, 2026. Unless a later court record is checked, the article should not state a post-sentencing result.

Mesa, Arizona: guilty plea and five-year sentence

On April 28, Ian William Moses was accused of pouring gasoline over a dealership building and three Tesla vehicles and igniting the materials. A Cybertruck was destroyed.

This is the case in the reviewed record that had reached a final sentencing stage by January 2026. The DOJ said Moses pleaded guilty to all five counts and was sentenced to 60 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release. The release said restitution would be addressed at a later hearing. The Arizona U.S. Attorney’s Office described the sentence.

Reported incidents that remained unresolved or less fully documented

Littleton, Massachusetts

Police said seven Tesla charging stations in Littleton sustained heavy fire damage on March 3. The circumstances appeared consistent with intentionally set fires, but the reviewed materials did not establish a federal charging document or final adjudication. It should therefore be called a reported suspected-arson investigation, not a proven protest crime.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Tigard, Oregon

At least seven shots were fired at a Tesla dealership in Tigard on March 6, damaging three vehicles and dealership windows. More than a dozen shots were reportedly fired at the same location on March 13. The FBI’s nationwide alert confirms that gunfire was among the methods used in the broader series of attacks, but the reviewed record does not identify a shooter or conclusively establish a protest-related motive for the Tigard shootings.

Seattle, Washington

A late-night fire damaged four Cybertrucks at a Tesla lot in Seattle’s industrial district on March 9. No one was injured, and the four trucks were the only property reported damaged. Seattle officials said the cause remained under investigation, according to the AP report.

That means the Seattle incident should not be labeled arson based only on its timing or its place in the wider protest wave. It was an unresolved fire in the available account.

Dedham, Massachusetts

Three Tesla vehicles at a Dedham dealership were vandalized on March 11. Police said all four wheels on each vehicle were damaged, while two additional vehicles were spray-painted. The reviewed evidence does not establish a later prosecution or final disposition.

Austin, Texas

Austin police investigated the discovery of multiple incendiary devices at a Tesla showroom on March 24. The reviewed source does not establish whether the devices ignited, whether anyone was charged, or whether the devices were connected to a protest organization. The careful description is therefore an investigation into discovered devices, not a confirmed fire or conviction.

What the FBI says about the wider pattern

The FBI’s nationwide alert said that, since January 2025, incidents targeting Tesla electric vehicles, dealerships, storage lots, and charging stations had occurred in at least nine states. The reported methods included arson, gunfire, and vandalism.

The bureau said the known attacks appeared to have been carried out by lone offenders, generally occurred at night, and used rudimentary tactics. That assessment supports describing the events as a geographically broad pattern. It does not support saying that all of them were centrally coordinated, that every vandalism report belonged to the same case, or that every offender was part of the protest movement.

  • Designed to help escape from a sinking, over-turned, crashed, or burning car
  • Protective bracket included for safe storage; store in center console or driver-side door pocket

The Department of Justice also used the term domestic terrorism in political messaging about the attacks. That phrase should not be treated as a substitute for the legal status of an individual case. Prosecutors still must prove the charged offenses, and a criminal complaint remains an allegation. The DOJ’s own releases preserve those distinctions in the Wagner and Kim matters.

Claims the public record does not establish

  • Not every Tesla protest was violent. The documented criminal incidents were a subset of a broader movement that also included demonstrations and political expression.
  • No proven nationwide coordinator. The FBI’s public assessment pointed toward lone offenders in the known cases; it did not announce a single national command structure.
  • No established link to named political groups. Claims that George Soros, Reid Hoffman, ActBlue, or other named organizations coordinated the attacks were reported by Forbes as claims made by Musk, not as established findings. The reviewed material provides no evidence for presenting those claims as fact. Forbes’ timeline and report should be read in that context.
  • Seattle was not established as arson in the reviewed AP account. The cause remained under investigation.
  • A charged person is not automatically convicted. The Salem, Loveland, Albuquerque, North Charleston, and Kansas City matters require that qualification unless later court records show a different outcome.

What Tesla owners and dealerships should take from the timeline

For vehicle owners, the reports do not justify treating ordinary protest activity as criminal or assuming that every damaged Tesla was attacked for the same reason. For dealerships and charging-site operators, the documented methods were different enough to require separate incident reporting: vandalism, gunfire, fire damage, and discovery of an incendiary device should not be collapsed into one category.

If a person encounters a suspected incendiary device, active fire, or evidence of gunfire, the sensible response is to keep away, avoid touching or moving anything, and contact emergency services and the property operator. Video, time stamps, and undisturbed scene evidence can be important to investigators. Those practical precautions do not identify a motive or establish who is responsible.

Bottom line

The evidence supports a real, multi-state pattern of attacks and investigations directed at Tesla-related property during a period of intense political controversy surrounding Musk. It also supports a more precise conclusion: some people were federally charged, one defendant was sentenced in Mesa, another pleaded guilty in Las Vegas with sentencing listed as pending in the cited release, and several other incidents remained investigations or unresolved fires. The public record does not show that peaceful Tesla protesters as a group committed the crimes, nor does it prove one centrally directed nationwide campaign.

Frequently Asked Questions

Were all Tesla protests violent?

No. The available record describes a broader protest movement alongside a subset of criminal incidents. A protest, anti-Musk slogan, or political message does not prove that the person responsible for a separate act of vandalism, arson, or gunfire was acting for a protest group.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Was there one organization coordinating the Tesla attacks?

Not based on the public FBI assessment cited here. The FBI said the known attacks appeared to involve lone offenders and did not publicly establish a single nationwide command structure. That does not mean investigators ruled out every possible relationship; it means a central national organization has not been established in the reviewed record.

Was the Seattle Cybertruck fire confirmed arson?

No. The Seattle fire damaged four Cybertrucks, but the AP report said Seattle officials were still investigating the cause. It should not be called arson solely because it occurred during the wider wave of Tesla protests and attacks.

Which Tesla attack cases resulted in convictions or sentences?

The cases had different outcomes. The Mesa defendant, Ian William Moses, pleaded guilty and received a five-year prison sentence plus three years of supervised release. Paul Hyon Kim pleaded guilty in February 2026, with sentencing listed for May 27, 2026, in the cited DOJ release. Other defendants in the reviewed record were arrested or charged, but those allegations should not be described as convictions without a later court disposition.

The Bottom Line

The Tesla protest wave included both peaceful political demonstrations and a narrower series of alleged or proven property crimes. Federal cases and the Mesa sentence show that some attacks led to serious prosecutions, but unresolved incidents must remain unresolved, and the FBI’s public assessment does not establish a single nationwide command structure.
