Tesla calls it the “new Model Y”; equipment, range, dimensions and pricing depend on the market and configuration. Here’s what changed—and what to check before comparing versions.
What changed in the refreshed Model Y?
Exterior and aerodynamics
Tesla’s refresh brings new front and rear light bars, revised front and rear fascias, and a redesigned tailgate. The company also describes aerodynamic changes. Together, those updates give the vehicle a visibly different look from earlier Model Y versions while retaining the familiar crossover shape. Tesla’s April 1, 2025 overview describes the exterior revisions.

Chassis and ride
Tesla says the refreshed vehicle has a stiffer body structure, revised suspension geometry and kinematics, and damping technology informed by the upgraded Model 3. These are engineering changes intended to improve ride comfort and handling; the published overview does not provide an independent comparative test.
Noise and range claims
Tesla says the new Model Y reduces road noise by 22%, impact noise by 20% and wind noise by 20% compared with earlier Model Y vehicles. It also claims 5% more range with the same battery energy. These are manufacturer figures from Tesla’s 2025 overview, not independent test results.

In that overview, Tesla gives a 320-mile EPA-estimated range for the AWD configuration it discusses. Treat that as a configuration- and publication-specific U.S. figure, not the range for every refreshed Model Y. Trim, drivetrain, wheels and market affect the figure shown for a particular vehicle. Tesla’s summary is: “New Model Y also has 5% more range with the same battery energy and more comfortable ride handling compared to earlier Model Y vehicles.”
What changed inside?
The refreshed cabin adds features aimed at comfort and rear passengers. Tesla lists ventilated front seats, powered second-row recline, an 8-inch rear touchscreen and dual 65W USB-C outlets. Availability can vary by trim, configuration and market, so confirm equipment on the local vehicle listing rather than assuming every Model Y includes it. Tesla’s overview describes these features.

How does Model Y L differ from the five-seat Model Y?
Tesla’s current manual treats the six-seat Model Y L as a distinct version, not simply a seating option to which standard Model Y measurements can be applied. Its listed dimensions and cargo capacity differ from those of the five-seat Model Y Premium.

What did the refreshed Model Y cost?
There is no single worldwide price for the refresh, and past launch pricing should not be mistaken for a current quote. In a report updated April 12, 2025, Car and Driver reported that the U.S. Long Range AWD was priced at $50,630 after the Launch Series, reported at $61,630, was no longer available. Those are historical U.S. figures from April 2025, not current prices or prices for other markets. Use Tesla’s local configurator for current availability and pricing.

Check the model designation, production year and market before ordering liners. Tesla Shop lists its standard Model Y all-weather interior liners for vehicles produced in 2025 or later, but excludes Model Y L. It lists a separate set for Model Y L Premium vehicles produced in 2026 or later. Tesla also lists a front trunk liner for Model Y Premium and Performance vehicles produced in 2025 or later, and Model Y L Premium vehicles produced in 2026 or later.

How to compare two refreshed Model Ys
- Match the market and trim. A range or price figure only applies to the configuration and region it describes.
- Check the drivetrain and wheels. These can affect the range associated with a vehicle.
- Confirm seat count and model name. The five-seat Model Y Premium and six-seat Model Y L have different dimensions and cargo figures.
- Verify equipment and accessory fit. Features and liner compatibility can vary by configuration and production year.
