The Tesla Model Y refresh known in launch-era coverage as “Juniper” is no longer merely spied or upcoming: Tesla says the updated Model Y launched during 2025. The company describes revised styling and chassis hardware intended to improve comfort, quietness and efficiency, but those are manufacturer claims rather than independent comparative test results. Current specifications and availability depend on market and trim.
What “Juniper” means—and why “spied” is outdated
“Juniper” was the name used in launch-era reporting for the refreshed Model Y; Tesla’s official product materials call it the “new Model Y.” In January 2025, InsideEVs reported uncamouflaged sightings and highlighted the revised full-width front and rear light treatments. That was a snapshot from before launch, not evidence that the vehicle remains unreleased. Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K says the refreshed Model Y launched during 2025.

What Tesla says changed
Exterior and practical details
Tesla describes the refresh as having a more premium exterior and calls out a cross-car rear lightbar. The company also highlights a drain plug in the front trunk and a separately sold accessory system for it. The rear tow-hitch cover uses quarter-turn fasteners. These details come from Tesla’s product announcement; check exact vehicle and accessory compatibility before buying add-ons.

Interior and chassis
Tesla says the cabin has been upgraded and identifies a stiffer body structure, redesigned suspension geometry and kinematics, and damping technology borrowed from the upgraded Model 3. The company says these changes are intended to improve ride comfort and quietness while retaining agility and handling. They should be read as Tesla’s description of the engineering and its intended effects, not as independent proof of a measured improvement against an earlier Model Y.

Range claim: keep the market in view
In a February 13, 2026 announcement, Tesla Australia said the new Model Y offers “5% more range with the same battery energy” and a more comfortable ride than earlier Model Y vehicles. This is a Tesla Australia claim, not a universal range figure for every refreshed Model Y trim or market. Range ratings and available configurations vary by region, and the announcement does not replace a current, trim-by-trim comparison. How to read Tesla’s “world’s best-selling vehicle” claim
Tesla’s January 29, 2025 investor presentation called the Model Y “THE WORLD’S BEST SELLING VEHICLE.” That is Tesla’s own wording, so it should be attributed to the company rather than presented as a new independent ranking. Tesla’s Q4 2024 update separately said the Model Y was the best-selling vehicle of any type in Denmark, Norway and Sweden in 2024. Those country-specific statements do not, by themselves, establish a global ranking for 2024.

NHTSA reported that a later-release 2026 Tesla Model Y was the first vehicle model to pass its four newly integrated advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) tests. The agency’s criteria apply to vehicles manufactured on or after November 12, 2025. This is a result for specified driver-assistance tests and production dates; it is not a blanket crash-safety rating and should not be generalized to every Model Y built before or after that date.
