There is no verified Tesla Model Pi smartphone in the evidence reviewed through August 11, 2026. Tesla has not published an official product page, Tesla Shop listing, support documentation, investor disclosure, launch announcement, price, specifications, or ordering path for a phone called Model Pi.

The device is best treated as an unannounced product rumor built from fan concepts, speculative videos, and fabricated viral posts—not as a Tesla phone you can pre-order or buy. Tesla does offer genuine smartphone integration, including phone-key functionality for supported vehicles, which may help explain why the rumor sounds plausible.

The short answer: no verified Tesla Model Pi phone exists

As of August 11, 2026, the Tesla Model Pi is not an announced or verified retail smartphone. The reviewed Tesla materials cover electric vehicles, energy-generation and storage products, charging equipment, vehicle accessories, merchandise, and related services. They do not identify a Tesla smartphone named Model Pi.

That conclusion is about the available evidence, not a prediction that Tesla could never make a phone. Elon Musk has discussed a hypothetical phone only in conditional terms, and a future product would require fresh confirmation from Tesla. For now, viral claims about a $100, $199, $299, or $789 Tesla phone, free Starlink service, solar charging, Neuralink integration, cryptocurrency mining, or a specific release year are unsupported.

Why the Model Pi rumor keeps returning

The name “Model Pi” appears to come from a mixture of fan design work and speculative technology coverage rather than an established Tesla product designation.

One important source of the rumor’s visual identity was a 2021 concept by designer Antonio De Rosa. The concept imagined a Tesla-branded phone with features such as control of Tesla devices, Starlink connectivity, Neuralink integration, and Marscoin mining. It was presented as a concept—a creative design exercise—not as a Tesla announcement, prototype, or leaked product.

Once concept images are reposted without their original label, they can look like official product photography. YouTube thumbnails, social-media posts, AI-assisted promotional graphics, and rumor articles may then add a price or release date that was never part of the original concept. A polished image is not evidence that Tesla manufactured the device.

What the viral posts claim

Different versions of the rumor make different promises. That inconsistency is itself a warning sign: there is no stable, verifiable specification sheet behind the claims.

Viral claim Evidence status What would verify it
The phone will cost $100, $199, $299, or $789 Unsupported. No official Tesla price or ordering information was found. An official Tesla product page, regional price, terms, and working purchase or reservation flow.
It will include free Starlink service or connect directly to satellites Unsupported. No Tesla or SpaceX documentation reviewed confirms a Model Pi device or service plan. Technical documentation and a formal announcement from the relevant company explaining hardware, coverage, service, and pricing.
It will charge from sunlight Unsupported. Viral images and descriptions do not establish usable solar-charging hardware or performance. Official specifications, charging limits, safety information, and independent regulatory or retail documentation.
It will mine cryptocurrency or Marscoin Unsupported. This idea traces to speculative concept material, not a Tesla product announcement. An official specification or product statement from Tesla.
It will integrate with Neuralink Unsupported. The claim belongs to the speculative feature set repeated in concept coverage. Formal statements from the relevant companies describing a real, supported product integration.
It will replace the iPhone or launch in a particular year Unsupported. No verified launch date, carrier information, certification, or distribution plan was found. An announcement followed by specifications, support terms, availability, and an actual order path.

Fact-checking by AFP, PolitiFact, Lead Stories, and material reported by Snopes found no credible Tesla announcement supporting the viral phone claims. AFP also reported that images used in 2025 claims were fabricated. PolitiFact rated the claim that Musk had announced a $299 Tesla phone false. Lead Stories likewise found no announcement on Tesla’s website or official X account when it reviewed the claim.

What Elon Musk actually said about a Tesla phone

In comments reported in November 2024, Musk said Tesla was not planning to make a smartphone at that time. He left open a conditional possibility if Apple or Google imposed sufficiently serious restrictions involving security or censorship.

That distinction matters. A statement that Tesla might consider a phone under hypothetical future circumstances is not:

  • a product announcement;
  • a confirmation that “Model Pi” is the name;
  • evidence of a working prototype;
  • a price or specification sheet;
  • a release date; or
  • a commitment to manufacture or sell the device.

More recent 2026 reporting about a possible SpaceX or Starlink-connected AI device should also not be converted into evidence of a Tesla Model Pi. Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, X, and other Musk-linked companies are separate businesses. A report about one company’s hypothetical hardware does not prove that Tesla is developing a phone.

What Tesla actually offers for smartphone users

Tesla’s real smartphone connection is mainly software and vehicle access—not a Tesla-made handset.

Phone key through the Tesla app

Tesla’s official support documentation says that, in most supported vehicles, a smartphone can act as the primary vehicle key over Bluetooth through the Tesla app. Setup generally involves installing the Tesla app, signing in to the appropriate Tesla account, enabling the required permissions, and pairing the phone with the vehicle according to Tesla’s instructions.

Compatibility and behavior vary by vehicle, phone, operating system, account access, and Tesla’s current support requirements. Tesla also documents backup options such as key cards and, for applicable vehicles, key fobs. A phone-key feature proves that Tesla supports ordinary smartphones for vehicle access; it does not prove that Tesla manufactures smartphones.

Tesla sells genuine vehicle and energy products, charging equipment, merchandise, spare parts, and accessories through its official channels. Be especially cautious when an unofficial seller uses Tesla branding to imply that an accessory is made or approved by Tesla. A third-party product designed to work with a Tesla vehicle is not evidence of a Tesla smartphone.

Real Tesla phone accessories you can buy today

If you own a Tesla and use an ordinary smartphone for phone-key access, navigation, or calls, a Tesla Model 3/Y phone mount may be a practical accessory to investigate. This refers to a third-party vehicle phone mount for existing Tesla vehicles—not a Model Pi accessory and not evidence that the Model Pi exists.

Before buying, check the exact vehicle generation, mounting location, phone dimensions, case compatibility, attachment method, visibility, and whether the design interferes with controls or airbags. Verify the seller and return terms independently; a listing that uses a Tesla logo is not automatically an official Tesla product.

How to verify a future Tesla phone claim

  1. Start with Tesla’s official channels. Check Tesla’s main website, Tesla Shop, Tesla Support, and investor-relations disclosures. A genuine major product should leave more than a social-media image behind.
  2. Look for a consistent product identity. The model name, specifications, software support, warranty, safety information, regional availability, and company responsible for sales should agree across official pages.
  3. Demand a real ordering path. A legitimate price should appear with taxes or regional terms where applicable, delivery information, payment protections, cancellation rules, and an actual Tesla-controlled purchase or reservation flow.
  4. Check technical and regulatory details. A phone intended for sale would normally need credible information about cellular connectivity, supported networks, software updates, charging, warranty service, and market availability. Missing details are not proof of fraud by themselves, but they are a reason not to pay.
  5. Trace images to their original source. Reverse-image searches and the earliest dated post can reveal that an image began as a designer concept, render, fan mock-up, or unrelated device.
  6. Separate Tesla from related companies. A Starlink, SpaceX, X, Neuralink, or third-party announcement is not automatically a Tesla phone announcement.
  7. Never prepay an unofficial “Tesla Pi” seller. Do not enter card details, identity documents, crypto payments, or Tesla account credentials into a page that is not an authenticated official sales channel.

Warning signs of a fake Tesla Pi pre-order

  • A countdown clock or “limited launch” message without an official Tesla announcement.
  • A price that changes between posts or regions.
  • Only computer-generated images or edited pictures, with no technical documentation.
  • Claims that the phone is “secret,” “invite-only,” or being sold before Tesla has published it.
  • Payment by cryptocurrency, gift card, wire transfer, or an unusual payment processor.
  • A web address that imitates Tesla but is not an official Tesla-controlled domain.
  • Requests for Tesla login credentials, government identification, or excessive personal information.
  • Affiliate-heavy pages that cite one another instead of linking to an official Tesla announcement.

If you have already submitted payment or account information, contact your payment provider promptly, change reused passwords, enable multifactor authentication, preserve screenshots and receipts, and report the listing to the platform and relevant authorities. Do not assume that a Tesla logo or an image of Elon Musk authenticates a seller.

Why the rumor sounds believable

Tesla already has a recognizable technology brand, connected vehicles, a mobile app, phone-key support, charging products, and a business relationship in the public imagination with satellite connectivity through Musk’s wider corporate network. Those real facts make a Tesla phone seem commercially plausible.

But plausibility is not confirmation. The gap between “Tesla could theoretically make a phone” and “Tesla has launched the Model Pi” is exactly where viral hoaxes insert invented prices, features, images, and dates.

Bottom line

The Tesla Model Pi smartphone is best described as an unverified rumor and, in the context of viral launch posts, a fabricated product claim. No official Tesla evidence reviewed through August 11, 2026 establishes that the phone exists, is available for pre-order, or will launch at any of the prices and dates circulating online.

Tesla does support ordinary smartphones as vehicle keys in many supported vehicles, and third-party mounts and other accessories are available for Tesla owners. Neither fact turns a fan concept into a Tesla phone. Treat any “Model Pi” sales page as unverified unless Tesla itself publishes the product, its specifications, support terms, and a genuine purchase path.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Tesla Model Pi phone real?

No verified Tesla Model Pi smartphone was found in the official Tesla materials and fact-checking evidence reviewed through August 11, 2026. The name is associated with fan concepts, speculative coverage, and recurring viral claims.

Did Elon Musk announce a $299 Tesla phone?

No. PolitiFact rated that claim false. Musk was reported in November 2024 as saying Tesla was not planning to make a phone at that time, while discussing only a conditional hypothetical possibility.

Will the Tesla Model Pi have free Starlink?

There is no verified Tesla or SpaceX documentation supporting that claim. Reports or speculation about Starlink or a SpaceX device should not be treated as evidence of a Tesla-branded phone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I pre-order the Tesla Model Pi?

There is no verified official Tesla pre-order path in the reviewed evidence. Avoid entering payment or account information on unofficial pages claiming to sell or reserve one.

Does Tesla make a phone-key app?

Tesla provides a mobile app that can allow an ordinary compatible smartphone to function as a vehicle key over Bluetooth in most supported vehicles. That is smartphone integration, not a Tesla-made smartphone.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Tesla Model Pi is not a verified Tesla product as of August 11, 2026. Treat viral prices, release dates, Starlink promises, solar-charging claims, and pre-order pages as unsupported unless Tesla publishes verifiable product and ordering information through its official channels.
