Tesla delivered 1,636,129 vehicles worldwide in 2025, down from approximately 1.789 million in 2024—a second consecutive annual decline. The drop came alongside lower company revenue, but the measures are not interchangeable: Tesla’s total revenue fell 3%, while automotive sales revenue fell 9%.
How many vehicles did Tesla deliver in 2025?
Tesla’s January 2, 2026 delivery release reported 1,636,129 vehicles delivered for the full year, including 418,227 in the fourth quarter. Its 2025 annual report rounds the full-year figure to approximately 1.64 million. For 2024, Tesla’s Form 10-K reported approximately 1.789 million consumer-vehicle deliveries.
Comparing those annual delivery totals establishes two consecutive yearly declines. Tesla’s terminology matters: these are deliveries, not a figure the cited reports define as retail sales.
What happened to Tesla’s revenue?
Tesla’s 2025 Form 10-K reports total revenue of $94.83 billion, down $2.86 billion, or 3%, from $97.69 billion in 2024. Automotive sales revenue declined 9%. That 9% figure applies to automotive sales revenue, not to Tesla’s total company revenue.

Tesla’s explanation for the automotive decline
Tesla said the decrease in automotive sales revenue reflected approximately 8% fewer cash deliveries and a lower average selling price per unit. The company attributed the lower average price to sales mix and increased customer incentives, including attractive financing options. These are the factors Tesla cited for the revenue decrease; the filing does not quantify a single cause for the full-year delivery decline.
Not every Tesla business line declined
In 2025, energy generation and storage revenue rose 27% to $12.77 billion, while services and other revenue increased 19% to $12.53 billion, according to Tesla’s annual filing. Growth in those segments did not prevent total revenue from falling, but it shows why vehicle deliveries alone cannot describe the company’s full financial performance.

Tesla cautioned in its fourth-quarter release that deliveries and storage deployments are only two measures of financial performance and should not be relied on as indicators of quarterly financial results. The company says results also depend on factors such as average selling price, cost of sales, and foreign-exchange movements.
How Tesla’s decline compares with BYD
The Associated Press reported on January 2, 2026, that BYD sold 2.26 million vehicles in 2025, compared with Tesla’s approximately 1.64 million deliveries. On those reported full-calendar-year global figures, BYD was ahead. The metrics are not identically worded: AP described BYD’s total as vehicles sold and Tesla’s as vehicles delivered.

AP identified overseas competition, customer backlash related to Elon Musk’s politics, and the expiration of US electric-vehicle tax credits as pressures on Tesla. That is AP’s account of contributing factors, not a quantified breakdown from Tesla showing how much each factor affected deliveries.

The figures establish that Tesla’s annual deliveries fell for a second consecutive year and that both total revenue and automotive sales revenue were lower in 2025. They do not, on their own, establish one definitive cause or predict whether deliveries will rise or fall next year.

Tesla’s filing lists shifting consumer trends, policy uncertainty, inflation, energy prices, interest rates, competition, and changes to incentives among factors that can affect demand. It also describes rapidly changing trade and fiscal policy as a source of uncertainty in automotive and energy markets. The same filing presents new products and autonomy as growth opportunities; those are company-stated opportunities, not evidence of a particular future result.
