The delivery disruption was reported by Electrek on March 13, but Tesla had not published a stop-sale notice at that point. Tesla subsequently confirmed the underlying defect in recall 25V-170, covering 46,096 model-year 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks built from November 13, 2023, through February 27, 2025.
Were Cybertruck deliveries really on hold?
Reports from Tesla delivery agents and buyers described canceled appointments and delayed handovers while the company investigated the trim problem. That was evidence of a delivery-center containment action, not a publicly announced Tesla stop-sale order.

The official position came later. Tesla filed recall 25V-170 on March 18, 2025, and NHTSA announced the recall on March 20. The recall established the safety defect and a repair program; it did not make every delivery delay report an official nationwide stop-sale.

Why is the Cybertruck trim flying off?
The affected part is the cantrail (also called the cant rail), an exterior trim assembly running along each side of the windshield and roof. Tesla says the stainless-steel panel can delaminate at its adhesive joint and separate from the vehicle.

In the NHTSA filing, the assembly is described as an electrocoated steel stamping joined to a stainless-steel panel with structural adhesive and attached with fasteners. If the bonded joint fails, the visible stainless panel can loosen, make noise in the cabin or detach completely.
What safety risk does a loose cantrail create?
A panel that separates while the Cybertruck is in Drive can strike or obstruct following traffic. Tesla and NHTSA warn that it may become a road hazard and increase the risk of a collision or injury.

Which Cybertrucks are covered?
Recall 25V-170 covers all model-year 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks manufactured from November 13, 2023, through February 27, 2025. Tesla reported 151 potentially related warranty claims as of March 14, 2025. A vehicle’s inclusion should be confirmed by its VIN rather than inferred from its model year alone.
How to check your VIN
- Open Tesla’s recall-search page and enter the Cybertruck VIN.
- Check the VIN in NHTSA’s recall VIN tool as a second confirmation.
- If the recall appears, follow Tesla’s service-scheduling instructions for the cantrail repair.
What repair does Tesla provide?
The recall repair is free to the owner and Tesla says it takes approximately one hour. Service replaces the affected cantrail assembly using adhesive that meets durability requirements. The NHTSA filing also describes a welded stud and nut that clamp the stainless panel to the vehicle structure, providing a mechanical attachment in addition to the adhesive bond.

This is a safety recall repair, not a cosmetic trim adjustment. Generic glue, tape or an unverified trim kit is not an equivalent repair and should not be used as a substitute for Tesla’s remedy.

Tesla says affected owners may continue driving while waiting for parts or a service appointment. That guidance assumes the panel is not visibly loosening or separating.

If you see movement, a gap, partial detachment or other evidence that the panel is coming loose, contact Tesla promptly for service. Avoid high-speed driving until Tesla gives you instructions, and do not attempt a household adhesive repair. A detached panel can endanger vehicles behind you even if the Cybertruck itself remains drivable.

What Cybertruck owners should do now
- Record the VIN and check both Tesla’s recall search and NHTSA’s VIN tool.
- Inspect the cantrail visually, especially if you hear new roof or windshield-area noise.
- Schedule the recall service through Tesla if the VIN is covered.
- Tell Tesla immediately if the panel is visibly loose or separating.
- Do not use glue, tape or aftermarket trim hardware as the recall repair.
