Tesla added a third-row seating configuration to the standard-wheelbase 2026 Model Y. Engadget reported the announcement on January 13, 2026, describing the added seats as a $2,500 option available only with the Premium All-Wheel-Drive Long Range version. The price and trim limitation are the launch report’s information, not a current price independently displayed on Tesla’s accessible product page.
Tesla’s current Model Y product page lists the Model Y Premium with up to seven seats, dual-motor all-wheel drive, 327 miles of EPA-estimated range and 76 cubic feet of cargo capacity. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. The page does not establish market-by-market availability, delivery timing or a verified current price for the seven-seat option, so buyers should check the Tesla configurator for their location.
Which Model Y gets the third row, and what does it cost?
According to Engadget’s January 13, 2026 launch report, the seven-seat configuration was offered only on the Premium All-Wheel-Drive Long Range trim and cost $2,500. Tesla’s accessible product page supports that seven seats are available on the Premium listing, but it does not independently confirm that option price or the reported trim restriction. Availability and price may vary by market and can change; verify both in the local configurator before ordering.

Can adults fit in the third row?
Engadget characterized the extra seats as small and apparently intended mainly for children because of limited legroom. That is a qualitative observation based on configurator images, not a measured legroom figure or a documented adult-fit test. The sources do not establish a passenger-height limit. Anyone considering regular third-row use should inspect the vehicle and assess the seating position in person rather than assume the row will suit adults.
How does the seven-seat Model Y differ from the Model Y L?
The seven-seat configuration is not the same vehicle as the Model Y L. The standard-wheelbase Model Y adds a third row to its existing layout; the Model Y L is a separate, longer-wheelbase model with six seats. Tesla’s Q3 2025 update described the Model Y L as launched in China, and Tesla’s current product page lists it separately.

- Check the option price and delivery availability for your market. Tesla’s accessible product page does not display a verified seven-seat option price.
- Assess the third row in person if passengers will use it regularly. The available description is qualitative and does not provide measured space or adult-fit testing.
- Compare the standard-wheelbase seven-seat Model Y with the six-seat Model Y L on layout, dimensions, range and cargo capacity rather than treating them as interchangeable configurations.
Tesla lists a 4-year or 50,000-mile basic vehicle warranty and an 8-year or 120,000-mile battery and drive-unit warranty for the Model Y. These are manufacturer-published warranty terms; confirm the applicable terms for the vehicle and market when ordering.
