That let owners switch between a two-person camper layout, a four-person Tecamp arrangement, passenger seating or a cargo van. The report also listed optional off-grid and off-road equipment; it does not establish current availability, specifications or prices.
How the Terock’s modular interior works
New Atlas reported on August 31, 2020, that Terracamper’s updated Terock was based on the Volkswagen T6.1 Transporter. Its Flex-Layout floor rails were revised to make it easier to reposition or remove the main interior modules. The company had moved production from Hagen to Kassel, Germany, after Lars and Kanittha Cramer acquired it in 2019; the article said their own Terock travels informed the update.
The Terock retained a three-seat arrangement with one seat behind the driver and a kitchen on the passenger side. The modules were described as aluminum-framed with composite panels. Removing the main camper modules could leave a cargo van or make room for seating for up to six people, according to the report.

Bed dimensions and layout descriptions are from New Atlas’s 2020 report. It also described an optional Xtreme Open-Sky roof with a hard shell and roof hatch.

What off-grid equipment was available
The 2020 report listed several optional systems rather than presenting them as standard Terock equipment. The water-treatment setup was intended for natural water collected to refill a 40 L fresh-water tank. Electrical options included a 100 Ah lithium battery with solar charging and a 600 W inverter. New Atlas said the water and electrical hardware was integrated into rear side panels and remained installed when the other camper modules were removed.
The kitchen was described with a 34 L slide-out compressor fridge and a sink. A portable dual-burner stove for indoor or outdoor use was optional; the report did not name its maker or model. Buyers should confirm present-day equipment, compatibility and installation details with Terracamper rather than assume those article-era options remain available.

Off-road options and the “world’s toughest” claim
New Atlas listed upgraded suspension with a lift, AT/MT tires, a snorkel and a winch among the off-road options. These were options, not standard equipment in the report. The headline’s “world’s toughest” description is New Atlas’s characterization: the cited article gives no comparative test, defined toughness measure or independently verified global ranking.

New Atlas reported an article-era starting price of €74,000. It also relayed Promobil’s estimate that the pictured brown T6.1 build would cost upwards of €126,700. Both figures are historical prices reported in 2020, not current quotes; the report does not establish 2026 pricing or availability.
