The Tata Sierra EV is the stronger paper choice if you want a longer published range claim, more reported luggage space or a rear-wheel-drive option. The Hyundai CRETA Electric may suit you better if you want a lower reported entry price, a smaller-battery version, Level-2 ADAS on the compared top trim or Hyundai’s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) offer. Neither is a universal winner: the right pick depends on your budget, charging access, driving pattern and exact shortlist of variants.

On CarDekho’s July 9, 2026 ex-showroom snapshot, the CRETA Electric has the lower reported entry and top-end prices: ₹18.03–24.70 lakh versus ₹18.79–25.99 lakh for the Sierra EV. The Sierra range is described as introductory, so treat these as reported prices rather than a guaranteed current quote. On-road totals and local offers may differ.

What the BaaS headline price includes
Hyundai’s July 2, 2026 announcement offers the CRETA Electric with a starting vehicle price of ₹10.99 lakh ex-showroom, plus battery EMI from ₹3.9 per kilometre. That headline vehicle price excludes buying the battery outright; the per-kilometre charge is an additional ownership cost. Hyundai also says HC variants come with a 7.4 kW wallbox charger. How to compare BaaS with an outright purchase
Do not compare the ₹10.99 lakh vehicle price directly with a conventional ex-showroom price as if both include the same components. Estimate your expected kilometres over the period you plan to own the car, apply the stated per-kilometre battery charge, and compare that with the upfront and financing costs of the alternative. The available figures do not establish a total-cost winner without those usage assumptions.

Which has the longer claimed range?
The Sierra EV has the higher range claims in the published figures cited here. Autocar reports 566 km for the Sierra EV Empowered with a 63 kWh battery and 665 km with a 75 kWh battery. Hyundai’s official specifications list the CRETA Electric at 420 km with its 42 kWh battery and 510 km with its 51.4 kWh battery; those Hyundai figures are on the MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 cycle.
These are claimed figures, not a prediction of the distance you will cover in everyday driving. They also do not form a matched test: the Sierra figures are reported in Autocar’s variant comparison, while Hyundai states a specific test cycle for its own figures. Actual range varies with conditions and use, so base a purchase decision on your typical routes and access to charging rather than assuming the published maximum will be available on every trip.

Battery and motor options in the cited specifications
Hyundai lists liquid-cooled lithium-ion packs of 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. Its official page gives motor outputs of 99 kW (135 PS) and 126 kW (171 PS), respectively. Autocar’s July 2026 comparison reports the Sierra EV Empowered with 63 kWh or 75 kWh batteries, rear-wheel drive and outputs of 238 hp/209 hp; it compares those with the CRETA Electric Excellence LR at 51.4 kWh, front-wheel drive and 171 hp. Keep the outputs attached to the variants and source context rather than treating them as a comparison of every version on sale.
How quickly can they charge?
Published charging times are useful for planning, but they are not directly comparable here because the charging windows and stated charger conditions differ.

Hyundai cautions that actual charge time depends on factors including starting state of charge, charger output, vehicle and battery settings, temperature and supply conditions. The differing DC charge windows—20–80% for the Sierra figure versus 10–80% for the CRETA figures—mean the quoted minutes should not be read as a controlled head-to-head result. Which SUV offers more cabin and luggage space?
Autocar’s comparison reports both vehicles at 4,340 mm long, while the Sierra EV is wider, taller and has a longer wheelbase. It also lists larger rear-boot and frunk capacities for the Sierra. These are reported model figures; confirm the exact current variant specifications if the measurements matter to your parking space or luggage plan.

Autocar compares the Sierra EV Empowered with the CRETA Electric Excellence LR. In that specific mid-spec Sierra versus top-spec Hyundai pairing, the CRETA includes Level-2 ADAS and single-pedal driving. The Sierra’s listed distinctions include four terrain modes, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) functions, an additional passenger display and a gesture-activated powered tailgate.
The same comparison reports six airbags, stability control, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera on both compared trims.
