Syslogic’s OEM S-82 and S-83 embedded Box PCs are configurable industrial computers intended for roles such as CAN bus control, data logging, and IoT gateway operation. They are not one-size-fits-all devices: CAN support, port counts, wireless options, and environmental ratings depend on the selected model and configuration. Confirm the exact order code and complete-system requirements with Syslogic before specifying one for a vehicle or industrial installation.
What the Syslogic OEM series is designed to do
Syslogic positions its OEM embedded computers for industrial control and connectivity. The S-82 and S-83 are described for use as CAN bus controllers, data loggers, or IoT gateways, including applications in automated guided vehicles (AGVs), robotics, clean technology, traffic technology, and industrial automation. The company’s industrial computers overview also describes the family as configurable for customer requirements.
An IoT gateway role does not mean that every unit includes cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity. Syslogic identifies wireless modules as optional, so check whether the required radio hardware is included in the proposed configuration and what additional networking or software is needed for the intended cloud connection.
How the OEM S-82 and S-83 differ
The S-82 uses Intel Atom Elkhart Lake processors, while the S-83 uses Intel Atom Amston Lake processors. The manufacturer’s product pages describe both as fanless systems, but their listed interfaces and temperature details vary by model and configuration.

What to verify before selecting a unit
Choose based on the actual control and connectivity requirements, not the family name alone. Before ordering, have Syslogic confirm the exact configuration and its compatibility with the installation:

- MPN: IPEH-002021
- USB 1.1 , 2.0 , and 3.0 compatible
- Supports baud rates up to 1M
- 9-pin Male SUB-D. Storage Temperature-( -40°C) to +100°C
- Supports all interrupt and port addresses configurations of the USB interface
- CAN implementation: Confirm channel count, controller type, CAN FD support if required, and the physical connector and cable arrangement.
- Networking: Check the required Ethernet port count and whether Wi-Fi or cellular hardware is included, optional, or outside the proposed configuration.
- Operating environment: Confirm the full-system temperature rating for the chosen order code. The component-level range is not a blanket rating for every complete configuration.
- System integration: Verify power input, mounting, enclosure protection, storage, operating system, and required software against the current datasheet and integration documentation. The cited product pages do not establish every installation detail.
- Order quantities and customization: Ask which changes are available for the planned quantity; the product pages describe customer-specific configuration in medium quantities or above.
CAN accessories and expansion
Accessories are conditional, not universal requirements. Syslogic lists DIN rail clips and a CAN cable with an M12 connector among S-82 accessories. Its separate CAN-miniPCIe card is an expansion option only if the selected computer has a compatible PCI Express Mini slot and its onboard CAN does not meet the application’s needs. Confirm slot, connector, and system compatibility before treating either accessory as part of the design.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing between the S-82 and S-83
The S-82 is an Elkhart Lake option with several listed configurations, including materially different CAN and Ethernet arrangements. The S-83 is based on the newer Amston Lake platform and is positioned for CAN control, data logging, IoT, and image-processing applications. Neither description alone determines which is right for a deployment; the deciding factors are the exact I/O configuration, required CAN features, software and environmental fit, and availability of the needed order code. Syslogic routes buyers through product inquiries and configuration rather than a consumer checkout.

- Open Source Hardware, Actually Published: SH-C30L comes from the CANable open hardware project — and we publish our own design back. The full schematic and PCB layout for this exact board are on our GitHub (dsdtech-official), as editable design files rather than pictures, under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 licence, together with the firmware images. Inspect it, modify it, build your own.
- Direct USB-to-CAN Connectivity: Connect a computer straight to a CAN bus with no gateway in between. A 120 ohm termination switch is built in, so you can switch it off on a bus that already has two, and a programming switch drops the MCU into its USB bootloader for reflashing. Each CAN line runs through a resettable fuse and a TVS clamp, and the bus lands on a 3-pin 3.81 mm pluggable terminal.
- Flexibility on Open Protocols: SH-C30L ships with candleLight firmware, which speaks gs_usb — a protocol whose driver is built into the Linux kernel, so it comes up as a standard SocketCAN interface with nothing to install. Use it with cangaroo, can-utils or python-can. You can also reflash it to slcan firmware from your browser at canable.io.
- The Plug Is on a Lead, Not on the Board: A 15.4 in / 39 cm captive cable carries the USB-A plug, so the adapter no longer hangs off the port — it does not block the neighbouring socket, it keeps the strain off the connector, and the board itself is 19 mm shorter than our SH-C30A. Useful wherever the port is recessed or the wiring is tight.
- New Firmware, Free on GitHub: SH-C30L shipped with the stock CANable candleLight build, which ignores the 24 MHz crystal fitted on the board. Our own build runs from that crystal and lights the TX and RX LEDs the stock build left dark. Units produced from September 2026 ship with it already installed; earlier units can be updated over USB — free, and entirely optional.
