For a family comparing three-row electric SUVs, the most useful number is cargo space with the third row still occupied—not the maximum volume after seats are folded. Current U.S. manufacturer specifications provide clear row-by-row figures for the 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9, 2026 Cadillac VISTIQ and 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQL. They do not support a fair, ranked list of ten: several relevant models lack comparable figures here, and automakers may use different measurement methods.

Why a reliable top-10 ranking is not possible

A useful family-space comparison needs the same information for each vehicle: how many people it seats, how much luggage fits behind the third row, and how cargo capacity changes when rear seats fold. The available 2026 U.S. specifications provide some of those details for a small group, but not a consistent set for ten models. Ranking ten anyway would imply a precision the figures do not establish.

Manufacturer cargo figures are useful for narrowing a shortlist, but they are not a standardized independent test. Treat the numbers below as each automaker’s stated capacities, not as directly comparable measurements across brands.

What the published cargo figures say

2026 U.S. model Seats and configuration Behind third row Behind second row Maximum listed cargo
Hyundai IONIQ 9 Three-row SUV; the cited specification page provides cargo figures but does not state seating count in the cited data. 21.9 cu. ft. 46.7 cu. ft. 86.9 cu. ft. behind the first row
Kia EV9 Up to seven seats, according to Kia. Kia says it has more cargo room behind the third row than the 2025 Rivian R1S; a numeric capacity is not stated in the cited page information. Not stated in cited page information. Not stated in cited page information.
Cadillac VISTIQ Three-row SUV; cited model page includes passenger-space information. 15.2 cu. ft. 43 cu. ft. with the third row folded 80.2 cu. ft. with the second and third rows folded
Cadillac Escalade IQL Three-row SUV. 24.2 cu. ft. 75.4 cu. ft. with the third row folded 125.2 cu. ft. with both rear rows folded

Which figures matter for a full-family trip?

Start with cargo behind the third row

When every passenger row is occupied, the third-row figure is the relevant starting point for suitcases, a stroller or sports gear. Among the models with a published number in this comparison, the 2026 Escalade IQL lists 24.2 cu. ft., the IONIQ 9 lists 21.9 cu. ft., and the VISTIQ lists 15.2 cu. ft. These are manufacturer specifications and should not be treated as a controlled head-to-head test.

Keep seat positions distinct

“Maximum cargo” usually means some or all rear seats are folded. For the IONIQ 9, Hyundai lists 46.7 cu. ft. behind the second row and 86.9 cu. ft. behind the first. Cadillac lists the VISTIQ at 43 cu. ft. with its third row folded and 80.2 cu. ft. with both rear rows folded; the Escalade IQL is listed at 75.4 and 125.2 cu. ft. in those respective configurations. Those larger figures describe different passenger-cargo tradeoffs from a trip with all rows in use.

The EX90’s stated 85.3 cu. ft. is a maximum with backrests folded, so it cannot be compared directly with a third-row capacity. Kia’s cited EV9 information gives a relative comparison to the 2025 R1S, not an exact volume for a like-for-like table.

How to choose the right family layout

  1. Count the seats you actually need. The EV9 is described by Kia as seating up to seven. Check the precise configuration of each trim under consideration; second-row seating can differ, and a six-seat layout may trade a middle seat for separate second-row chairs.
  2. Measure your normal load with all rows up. Use the behind-third-row capacity where the manufacturer publishes it, then test your own stroller, bags or sports equipment rather than assuming a cubic-foot figure guarantees fit.
  3. Check the folded-seat arrangement you will use most. Compare second-row and maximum cargo figures only when the seat positions match. Consider whether the household often carries six or seven people, or more often folds a row for bulky cargo.
  4. Try the actual child seats and passengers in person. Published cargo and passenger-space specifications do not establish whether a particular child seat fits comfortably, whether adults will tolerate the third row on a long trip, or how easily passengers can reach it.

Models to keep on the shortlist

The IONIQ 9, EV9, VISTIQ, Escalade IQL and EX90 are useful candidates to investigate, but the available evidence does not establish a ten-vehicle ranking or a universal family winner. Kia’s statement that the 2026 EV9 has more space behind the third row than the 2025 Rivian R1S is Kia’s own comparison, not an independent measurement. The cited figures also do not provide enough consistent primary-source data to rank the Rivian R1S, Tesla Model X or Volkswagen ID. Buzz against these models.
