The Royal Enfield Classic 650 is no longer upcoming: Royal Enfield announced its India launch on March 27, 2025, with bookings, test rides and sales beginning that day. The “production-ready” images that prompted the earlier headline were a UK spy sighting reported in September 2024—not an official specification sheet.
What the 2024 spy sighting showed
September 2024 reports described an undisguised Classic 650 spotted in the UK. Team-BHP characterized the pictured motorcycle as an apparent pre-production version. The images showed a Classic-family 650 in a near-production-looking form, but a spy photograph cannot confirm final specifications, pricing or launch timing. Team-BHP’s September 2024 report is useful for understanding the sighting, not for establishing the final model’s market details.
Was the Royal Enfield Classic 650 launched?
Yes. Royal Enfield announced the India launch on March 27, 2025; the company said bookings, test rides and sales began across India on that date. Its launch announcement listed four colourways and a starting price of INR 3,37,000 ex-showroom in Chennai. That is a launch-era price for a specific Indian city, not a current worldwide price. Royal Enfield’s launch announcement was reproduced in an exchange-filed PDF.
The later company picture also confirms the model is part of the existing range: Royal Enfield’s May 2026 business update includes the Classic 650 in its premium lineup and mentions a Classic 650 125th Anniversary Special Edition shown at EICMA 2025. The company update does not make the original sighting a launch announcement; it places the model in the subsequent product timeline.

What Royal Enfield confirms about the motorcycle
At EICMA 2024, Royal Enfield identified the Classic 650 Twin as a member of the Classic family, propelled by the company’s 650 Twin engine. That establishes the engine family, but does not by itself prove that every component or tune is identical to those used in other Royal Enfield 650 models. Royal Enfield’s EICMA 2024 announcement is the manufacturer’s source for that description.
For concrete specifications, Royal Enfield Japan currently publishes the following figures for its market. They should be read as Japanese-market specifications, not assumed universal specifications for every country:

Those figures are from Royal Enfield Japan’s product listing accessed in 2026; local taxes, specifications, availability and pricing can differ by country. For India, the launch announcement’s INR 3,37,000 ex-showroom Chennai starting price applies to the March 2025 launch context, not as a current or global quote. Japan trim prices and the India launch announcement should not be combined as though they describe one market.
What the launch announcement does—and does not—tell buyers
In the launch release, Royal Enfield Managing Director of Eicher Motors Limited and CEO B. Govindarajan called the motorcycle “more than just a motorcycle” and described it as a tribute to the company’s legacy, pairing timeless design with “effortless performance.” That is the manufacturer’s promotional framing, not independent evidence of performance. The material available here does not establish independent test results or model sales figures, so neither should be inferred from the spy images or launch copy.
