Rolls-Royce plans to make 100 client cars, with deliveries due to begin in 2028.
What is the Rolls-Royce Project Nightingale?
Announced on April 14, 2026, Project Nightingale is the first car in Rolls-Royce’s Coachbuild Collection. The marque describes it as an open-top, two-seat motor car and a “production concept.” “Supercar” is a useful headline shorthand for its exceptional, low-volume character, but Rolls-Royce has not presented it as a conventional performance or track car.
The name refers to Le Rossignol—French for “the nightingale”—the house near Henry Royce’s winter home on the Côte d’Azur where his designers and engineers worked. Rolls-Royce frames the project as the beginning of a new Coachbuild Collection story, not a regular-production model.
What makes its design different?
Project Nightingale is 5.76 metres long, nearly the length of the Phantom flagship saloon, despite having only two seats and an open top. That contrast is central to the car’s character: its proportions promise grand touring presence, not compact sports-car agility.

Rolls-Royce says the design draws on Streamline Moderne, the late Art Deco movement, as well as the experimental 16EX and 17EX cars built by the marque in 1928. The front grille is nearly one metre wide and has 24 vanes, according to the company’s launch announcement.
Rolls-Royce Director of Design Domagoj Dukec described the car as combining “grand proportions, absolute surface discipline, and a clarity of line” with a direction that is “entirely new.” The emphasis is on formal design and coachbuilding, rather than published lap times or performance figures.

Why is it electric?
Project Nightingale has a fully electric drivetrain. Rolls-Royce says electric power suits the marque’s emphasis on silent, effortless delivery and gives designers more freedom, including less need for the large cooling intakes associated with internal-combustion engines. Those are the manufacturer’s stated design and brand rationales, not independent driving-test findings.
The reviewed official announcements do not disclose the car’s final power output, battery capacity, driving range, charging time, acceleration or top speed. Without those specifications, it is not possible to make a meaningful performance comparison with other supercars or electric convertibles.

How many will be made, and who can buy one?
Rolls-Royce plans an allocation of 100 client motor cars. Entry to the programme is invitation-only, so Project Nightingale is not being offered as a standard model that anyone can order through an online configurator. The company announced that client deliveries are expected to start in 2028.
Rolls-Royce’s official Project Nightingale page directs interested readers to request information or contact a Rolls-Royce specialist or dealer. It does not publish a price. No retail figure should be inferred from the limited allocation or from the car’s positioning.

What does the testing programme tell us?
On September 21, 2026, Rolls-Royce said a global testing programme had begun. The company described the scale and focus of that programme as follows:
- 350 collective testing weeks across the development programme, as reported by Rolls-Royce in 2026.
- 1,430 hours of aerodynamic modelling and wind-tunnel testing, according to the same announcement.
- 15,000 opening-and-closing cycles for the Piano Boot, the car’s rear storage compartment, as part of its planned cycle testing.
- Prototype tests at altitudes of up to 2,750 metres.
Rolls-Royce says testing starts on European roads and will continue in climates where clients may choose to drive. These are manufacturer-reported programme figures, not independent test results or proof of a particular range, durability rating or performance level. The company has said further engineering details will follow as testing and development progress.
