Rivian delivered 8,640 vehicles in the first quarter of 2025, its lowest quarterly delivery total since the end of 2022, while producing 14,611. The dip was a dated Q1 2025 result—not a description of the company’s latest deliveries. Rivian said it had expected a difficult start to the year, citing seasonal weakness and demand conditions it said were partly driven by the Los Angeles fires. TechCrunch reported the figures and outlook on April 2, 2025.
How many vehicles did Rivian deliver in Q1 2025?
Rivian delivered 8,640 vehicles in Q1 2025 and produced 14,611. TechCrunch described the delivery total as the company’s worst quarterly mark since the end of 2022. Deliveries and production are different measures: production counts vehicles made, while deliveries count vehicles handed over to customers.

Production exceeded deliveries by 5,971 vehicles
The quarter’s production total was 5,971 higher than its delivery total. That arithmetic shows the gap between the two figures, but it does not establish how many vehicles were finished and awaiting handoff or whether other inventory and timing effects contributed. The figures do not support assigning a specific cause to every undelivered vehicle.
Why did Rivian expect a challenging start?
Before the quarter, Rivian described the opening months of 2025 as challenging. As reported by TechCrunch, the company pointed to a difficult demand environment that was partly driven by the Los Angeles fires, as well as the seasonally weaker start of the year. Those were Rivian’s stated factors, not proof that they were the only causes of the delivery decline.

What was Rivian’s 2025 delivery outlook at the time?
After reporting the Q1 results, Rivian maintained its 2025 delivery guidance of 46,000 to 51,000 vehicles, according to TechCrunch. That range was management’s forecast at the time, not a current outlook or a statement of the eventual 2025 result. Rivian’s later company releases describe delivery outlooks as forward-looking and subject to risks and uncertainties.
How did deliveries change after Q1 2025?
Subsequent results put the Q1 2025 dip in context, but they are not like-for-like adjacent-quarter comparisons. The following table lists the reported periods and makes clear which comparisons the cited sources support.

Q2 2026 also marked the start of external R2 deliveries
In its July 30, 2026 results release, Rivian said external R2 deliveries began June 9. The company reported $1.658 billion in quarterly revenue and $179 million in gross profit. CEO RJ Scaringe said, “This quarter we began external deliveries of R2. I believe R2 will be a game changer for our customers and a driver of Rivian’s long-term growth and profitability.” Those are company-reported results and the CEO’s view of the vehicle’s prospects, not an independent assessment. Rivian’s Q2 2026 deliveries were higher than Q1 2026, and the company raised its annual guidance that quarter. Axios then reported Q3 2026 deliveries above both Q2’s total and the average FactSet expectation it cited. These figures show a later change in delivery levels and outlook; they do not establish a year-over-year Q3 comparison, and they should not be treated as a direct comparison with Q1 2025 without accounting for the intervening quarters and changes in products, policy, and operations.
