Rich Celebrities and Their Surprisingly Affordable Cars: What the Reports Actually Say

Two dated reports associate Mark Zuckerberg with an Acura TSX, but the evidence does not verify a 15-person list or establish current ownership. Here are the reported cars—and the limits of those claims.

Mark Zuckerberg is the clearest Acura example in the available coverage: two articles, published in 2013 and 2017, associated him with an Acura TSX. Neither establishes that he owns or drives one today. The evidence also does not verify a specific list of 15 celebrities who drive Acuras or other cheap cars. What it does offer is a handful of dated, reported examples—and a useful reminder that “affordable” depends on who is buying.

What the reports say about Zuckerberg’s Acura

Amy Lamare’s August 2013 Celebrity Net Worth list described Zuckerberg’s car as a $30,000 Acura TSX. The article did not identify a model year or provide independent ownership documentation, and its dollar figure is a historical claim from that article—not a current price or valuation.

In October 2017, Carscoops summarized a separate CNBC selection that also associated Zuckerberg with a TSX. Carscoops attributed the description “safe, comfortable and not ostentatious” to CNBC; it is not independently verified direct speech here. The repetition makes this the most clearly documented Acura example in these articles, but it remains dated reporting rather than a present-day ownership record.

Other reported cars—and why the examples are not interchangeable

The older lists mix different kinds of claims: a car associated with someone at the time of publication, a vehicle reportedly bought years earlier, and even a gift later sold for charity. They are anecdotes, not evidence that wealthy celebrities generally choose inexpensive cars.

Cars in the 2013 list

Lamare’s 2013 article also associated Warren Buffett with a Cadillac DTS, Alice Walton with a 2006 Ford F-150 King Ranch, Steve Ballmer with a Ford Fusion Hybrid, and Ingvar Kamprad with a Volvo 240. It named Michael Dell’s 2004 Porsche Boxster, Laurene Powell Jobs’s Audi A5, François-Henri Pinault’s Lexus SUV, and Audi R8s for Phil Knight and Michael Bloomberg. These are the article’s historical claims; they do not establish current ownership, and its vehicle prices and wealth estimates should not be read as current figures.

A different selection reported in 2017

Carscoops’ 2017 summary of CNBC’s selection included Buffett’s Cadillac XTS, which it described as a 2014 purchase; Alice Walton’s Ford F-150; Kamprad’s Volvo 240 GL; Ballmer’s Fusion Hybrid; and NFL quarterback Kirk Cousins’s GMC Savana passenger van. Carscoops also reported that Buffett drove about 3,500 miles (5,600 km) a year. That is a figure from the 2017 article, not a current annual-mileage estimate. The article itself expressed uncertainty about some details, including Walton’s truck and whether Ballmer had changed cars.

Examples in a 2024 article

A 2024 GOBankingRates article named Christian Bale and a Toyota Tacoma, Leonardo DiCaprio and a Toyota Prius, Jennifer Lawrence and a Volkswagen Eos, Britney Spears and a Mini Cooper, and Conan O’Brien and a 1992 Ford Taurus SHO. It also said Tom Hanks received a custom 1973 Fiat 126P as a gift and later auctioned it for charity. These are that article’s reported examples, not confirmation that the named people currently drive or own those vehicles. A gift that was later auctioned is especially different from a current daily driver.

Does “cheap” mean affordable to a typical car buyer?

Not necessarily. Celebrity and wealth-focused lists use “cheap” or “affordable” comparatively: a car may seem modest next to an owner’s wealth, without being inexpensive for an ordinary buyer. The quoted $30,000 TSX figure, for example, belongs to a 2013 article and cannot tell a shopper what a TSX costs now. Used-car prices depend on year, condition, location and other factors; these lists do not provide a current price comparison.

Nor do the examples establish a trend. The articles select notable individuals and memorable vehicles; they do not measure how often wealthy celebrities choose lower-cost cars or define a threshold for “cheap.” The most accurate takeaway is narrower: publications have reported several high-profile people associated with cars they framed as comparatively modest.

Why a list of 15 Acura-driving celebrities would overstate the evidence

The available articles do not substantiate the exact 15-person lineup implied by the original title. The 2017 Carscoops piece concerns six people, and the 2013 and 2024 articles have different subjects and selections. Combining names from those pages would not produce a verified list of 15 Acura drivers: most of the cited cars are not Acuras, and the reports are from different years.

Another Acura-related claim requires similar care. The Drive’s article about celebrity cars speculated that an Acura MDX may have been given to Chris Hemsworth in connection with Acura’s sponsorship of Thor. A speculative promotional gift is not evidence of an ordinary personal purchase or a reliable current ownership claim.
