This 1970 Ford pickup keeps its cream-and-white, period-correct appearance while receiving a modernized chassis, suspension, brakes and drivetrain. TopSpeed covers it as a short-bed Ford F-100; ICON’s project page identifies the related build as a “1970 Ford Ranger Reformer.” That naming difference is worth keeping in view: the sources describe one bespoke ICON truck, not a specification guide for every 1970 F-100.
One client build, with two names in the coverage
ICON describes the project as an example of its client-led Reformer work: reimagining a classic truck with bespoke details and modern engineering. TopSpeed’s May 7, 2020 profile says ICON founder and lead designer Jonathan Ward found the truck on Craigslist. A client bought it, drove it in stock condition for a time, and later entrusted it to ICON. The article says the truck retained its original appearance and cream-and-white color scheme. TopSpeed’s profile uses the F-100 short-bed name, while ICON’s project page calls the build a 1970 Ford Ranger Reformer.
Powertrain and running gear
ICON specifies a 426-hp Ford 5.0-liter Coyote V8 paired with a Ford AOD automatic transmission. A twin-stick Advance Adapters Atlas II transfer case sends power to Dana axles; the page also names PSC power steering. ClassicCars.com Journal’s May 26, 2020 summary independently reports the same engine output and transmission, and also names the Atlas II and Dana axles. ClassicCars.com Journal’s account and TopSpeed both mention a custom Borla exhaust.
A new foundation, revised suspension and upgraded brakes
This is more than an engine swap. ICON says the truck uses a new frame, front radius arms and a four-link rear suspension, with Eibach coil springs and Fox shocks. ICON also specifies hydroboosted ICON Brembo brakes. These are details of this particular Reformer build; the sources do not establish that the components or setup will fit another F-100.

- Detailed chassis and 360CID V8 engine
- Chrome parts and detailed interior
- Soft PVC tires
Vintage exterior, updated details
The truck retains the look that defines the original: an egg-crate grille, round headlights, FORD lettering on the hood, chrome trim and two-tone cream-and-white paint. TopSpeed also reports concealed LED lighting in the bed and ICON badges. ICON says its custom-designed 18-inch forged-aluminum wheels were inspired by factory steel rims and finished with vintage-style hubcaps. The tires are BFGoodrich all-terrain tires; no model or size is specified in the cited build descriptions.
A cabin that keeps familiar controls
ICON says the client asked to retain manual windows rather than convert them to power. TopSpeed reports that the original steering wheel remains, while a replacement steering column adds tilt; the original lap belts were replaced with three-point belts. The bench seat was retrimmed in leather with textile inserts, and the truck received a removable carpet and restored headliner.

The result pairs recognizable vintage touchpoints with updated comfort and instrumentation.

The stated 426 hp is ICON’s specification for this truck’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8, not a population statistic or a measure of all ICON Reformers. The published material documents one client build; it does not provide a like-for-like comparison with other Reformers or stock F-100s, nor does it establish general part compatibility. If considering a named component for another vehicle, verify its exact part number and application. For tires in particular, ICON identifies only the BFGoodrich all-terrain category, so confirm size and fitment for the specific truck before buying.
