It combines a 2.4 GHz Bluetooth LE radio and a 16 MHz Arm Cortex-M0+ microcontroller in a compact, AEC-Q100 Grade 2-qualified component. For automotive engineers, its appeal is a small footprint, low-power operating modes and embedded BLE connectivity—not a ready-to-use consumer Bluetooth product or a qualification for an entire vehicle system.
What the DA14533 is
The DA14533 is a single-chip Bluetooth Low Energy system-on-chip (SoC) for embedded designs. It integrates a 2.4 GHz transceiver with a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M0+ running at 16 MHz. Renesas specifies 64 KB of retainable RAM, 160 KB of ROM and 12 KB of one-time-programmable (OTP) memory. Depending on the design, it can run an application itself or act as a data pump for a separate host processor.

Renesas describes the radio, baseband and qualified BLE stack as qualified against Bluetooth Core 5.3. The stack includes L2CAP, Security Manager (SM), ATT, GATT and GAP. Hardware AES-128 encryption is listed; the true random number generator is software-based. The chip supports up to three BLE connections.

Renesas specifies AEC-Q100 Grade 2 qualification and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C. These are ratings for the DA14533 component; they do not certify a customer’s circuit board, module, ECU, vehicle system or application. Those designs still need their own validation and qualification.

- 2.4GHz Dual Mode WiFi + Bluetooth Development Board
- Support LWIP protocol, Freertos
- SupportThree Modes: AP, STA, and AP+STA
- Ultra-Low power consumption, Compatible with Arduino IDE
- ESP32 is a safe, reliable, and scalable to a variety of applications
The device comes in a 22-pin wettable-flanks FCQFN package measuring 3.5 × 3.5 × 0.55 mm, with 0.5 mm pitch. Renesas lists nine GPIOs, two UARTs, SPI, I2C and a three-channel 10-bit ADC. These resources can support compact embedded designs, but the right fit depends on the application’s interface, compute and memory needs.
Radio capabilities and Bluetooth feature limits
Renesas specifies programmable transmit output from -19 dBm to +4 dBm and receiver sensitivity of -94.5 dBm. The product page marks several features as unsupported: LE 2 Mbps, Coded PHY, extended advertising, periodic advertising, AoA, AoD and Bluetooth Mesh. Qualification of the stack against Bluetooth Core 5.3 should not be read as support for every feature associated with that core version.

Power figures and how to compare them
Power numbers vary with measurement mode, supply conditions, radio state and RAM retention. The most explicitly conditioned figures in the current datasheet are from Renesas revision 3.3, dated May 12, 2026: with DC-DC enabled, VBAT_HIGH at 3 V and transmit output at 0 dBm, it lists system current of 3.9 mA in transmit and 2.5 mA in receive. The same revision lists clock-less hibernation current below 550 nA.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOther Renesas materials give different figures: the product page lists 3.5 mA receiver current, 2.1 mA transmitter current and 1.7 μA sleep current with all 64 KB of RAM retained; the March 25, 2025 launch announcement gives 3.1 mA transmission, 2.5 mA reception and 500 nA hibernation. These values should not be treated as interchangeable: compare the datasheet conditions and document revision, and distinguish clock-less hibernation from sleep with RAM retained. For a real design, estimate average power using its radio duty cycle, connection behavior, wake schedule and retention requirements, then validate it on the intended hardware.

Applications Renesas identifies
Renesas names tire-pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), car access and keyless entry/passive start (PEPS), onboard diagnostics (OBD) and battery management systems (BMS) as application areas. The product page also presents wireless EV BMS, humanoid BMS and continuous glucose monitor examples. These are manufacturer-identified application examples, not evidence that the DA14533 is deployed in a particular vehicle or automatically suitable for every implementation.
What the launch claims mean
In its March 25, 2025 announcement, Renesas called the DA14533 the first automotive-qualified device in its Bluetooth LE SoC family and claimed an engineering bill of materials with six external components. The component count is a Renesas launch claim; actual external-component needs depend on the implementation. The announcement also says a single crystal oscillator serves active and sleep modes.

The same release reported more than 100 million SmartBond Tiny family units shipped to date, in a statement attributed to Chandana Pairla, vice president of Renesas’ Connectivity Solutions Division. That is a family-wide historical figure reported in 2025, not a DA14533 shipment count. Renesas did not provide a DA14533-specific shipment figure in the cited product materials.

What to check when evaluating the DA14533
- Qualification: Confirm that the component’s AEC-Q100 Grade 2 rating and -40°C to +105°C range align with the project’s requirements; qualify the complete design separately.
- Bluetooth requirements: Check the specific BLE features needed, rather than assuming all Bluetooth Core 5.3 capabilities are present.
- Power budget: Compare current figures only when radio mode, supply voltage, transmit output and RAM-retention conditions match the intended use.
- Integration: Check the 22-pin package, nine GPIOs, listed interfaces, memory resources and whether the chip will host the application or communicate with a separate processor.
- System validation: Measure consumption and verify RF performance in the target design and operating conditions.
Renesas documentation also refers to a DA14533-00FXDB-P developer daughterboard. A distributor announcement from Mouser provides a sourcing lead, but neither fact establishes current stock or availability in a particular region.
