Renault’s sale of historic vehicles and heritage objects took place at its Flins site on 7 December 2025. The auction included about 100 vehicles and around 100 related objects, but Renault described the cars as duplicates and said it would retain 600 iconic and unique models, including at least one example of every model in its 125-year history. The sale is part of reorganising the collection as Renault prepares a public heritage centre at Flins, planned for 2027; Renault has not said that auction proceeds directly fund the centre.
What Renault sold at the Flins auction
Renault announced a sale of about 100 cars selected from a collection of more than 800 vehicles, alongside around 100 related objects. More than 90% of the lots were offered without reserve, according to Renault’s announcement. The sale was held at Renault’s historic Flins site on 7 December 2025; it is a completed auction, not an upcoming opportunity.
The lots covered much more than race cars. Renault’s examples included early cars, classic road cars and Alpine models, as well as racing machinery, design material and memorabilia:
- Early Renault vehicles, including the 1901 Renault Type D.
- About twenty authentic Formula 1 cars from Renault’s Turbo years, 1981–1985, and the Alpine A442.
- Rally cars including the Maxi Turbo 5 prototype B0 and Renault 5 GT Turbo Bandama.
- Design and wind-tunnel mock-ups, 1:5-scale concept cars, and rare F1 mock-ups.
- Engines, racing memorabilia, clocks, boats and a panoramic railcar mock-up.
Artcurial’s sale catalog records individual sold lots and prices. For example, it lists the 1901 Renault Type D at €45,752 and a 1998 Type A replica at €72,240. Those are individual catalog results, not a published aggregate total for the auction.

Why Renault is reorganising its collection
Renault says the sale centres on duplicate models and is part of reorganising its heritage collection as it prepares a new public exhibition centre at Flins. The company says it will keep 600 iconic and unique models and retain at least one of every model in its 125-year history. The auction therefore does not mean Renault is emptying its collection.
Renault’s stated connection is that the collection is being reorganised in preparation for the new centre. Its announcement does not establish that proceeds from the auction are earmarked to pay for construction, so the title’s funding claim should not be treated as confirmed.

What Renault plans for the Flins heritage centre
Renault has announced a public exhibition centre at Flins planned to open in 2027, with tours and themed exhibitions. The planned collection includes several hundred vehicles, more than half of them still running, and a restoration workshop for powertrains and bodywork. Renault also describes more than 2,400 linear metres of archives, including documents and objects such as posters, drawings, miniatures, toys, pedal cars, cups, medals and books.
The plan is for a broader heritage venue, not just a car display. Renault has not announced an exact opening day, ticket prices or visitor booking arrangements in the cited announcement.

- COLLECTIBLE DISPLAY ITEM: Designed for collectors aged 14 and above, this Renault 4LF4 Gordini Service model is intended as a collectible display piece rather than a toy. Its historic service livery, detailed craftsmanship, and accurate scale proportions make it an appealing addition to classic car or motorsport collections. This diecast model also makes a thoughtful gift option for Renault enthusiasts and collectors of historic automotive vehicles.
What the sale says about Renault’s racing history
The auction’s F1 and rally lots put Renault’s competition heritage in view, particularly the Turbo-era cars. Renault says it competed in 123 Grands Prix between 1977 and 1985, taking 15 victories and 31 pole positions. That company-reported record provides context for the race cars in the sale, but does not mean all of Renault’s racing history is leaving the collection.
Artcurial Motorcars vice-president Pierre Novikoff said Renault’s confidence in the auction house was an honour and called the sale a major event. His comment appeared in Renault and Artcurial’s announcement.

How to interpret an individual lot result
A catalog price identifies the recorded result for a specific lot; it does not by itself tell the whole story of a vehicle or establish the sale’s total proceeds. For collectors assessing individual historic lots, the relevant distinctions include authenticity and provenance, period, condition or restoration status, and whether registration documents or technical notebooks accompany the vehicle.
Renault’s announcement identifies some lots as prototypes, mock-ups or replicas, categories that should not be conflated with production cars or original competition vehicles. The catalog’s lot-specific description is the appropriate place to check what a particular object is and what documentation is included.
