Renault has announced the E-Space Concept as a vision of family travel for the electric age, drawing on the Espace name and its 1984 origins. The concept is scheduled to be unveiled on 12 October 2026; as of Renault’s 6 October announcement, it had not yet been revealed. The company has shared a 4.70-metre length and a few exterior details, but not production plans or technical specifications.
What Renault has announced
Renault describes E-Space Concept as a contemporary, future-focused take on travel and family mobility. The name deliberately connects the new concept to the original Espace: Renault says “E” refers to its E-Tech electrification naming, while “Space” signals a generous, high-tech and welcoming interior. These are Renault’s design intentions, not confirmation of a particular cabin layout or electric system. Renault’s announcement was published on 6 October 2026 and set the unveiling for 12 October.
The teaser’s confirmed details
- Length: Renault gives the concept’s length as 4.70 metres.
- Body colour: the company calls the finish “black rubé.”
- Lighting: a wide U-shaped light strip appears at both ends, with an illuminated diamond at the front.
That is a limited exterior preview. Renault has not announced a powertrain configuration, battery capacity, range, charging rate, seating arrangement, price, production plan or release date. It is therefore too early to compare the concept with production minivans on those measures.
How the concept echoes the original Espace
The first Espace arrived in 1984 as a European MPV developed by Renault with Matra. Renault Group’s history of the model describes a one-box shape, flat floor and a flexible cabin with removable seats and room for seven. The seats could be folded, removed or swivelled; the layout was conceived to feel more like a lounge, with passengers able to gather around a table. Renault Group’s family-car history says almost 200,000 first-generation Espaces were sold through 1991.

That modularity is the meaningful heritage reference behind the new concept’s family-mobility framing. Renault has not said that E-Space Concept repeats the original’s seven-seat capacity, removable seating or lounge arrangement. Its announced connection is one of spirit and intent, not a confirmed return of those specific features.
A name that carries the idea
Renault has used the Espace name across generations of family cars. Sylvia dos Santos, Renault’s Model-naming Strategy Manager, described its recognition this way: “The model name ‘Espace’ is well known in France and around the world. It’s almost a generic term now.” Renault Group’s Espace history traces that naming legacy.

Is the E-Space Concept a production minivan?
No production model has been confirmed. Renault UK presents E-Space as a concept and cautions that its design, specifications, features, name and branding are indicative and may differ from any eventual production vehicle. The page also states that the concept is not available to purchase. Renault UK’s concept page is explicit about those limits.
For now, the safest description is an announced concept that revisits the Espace’s family-car identity in an electric-era design study. The 12 October unveiling may provide more detail, but Renault’s 6 October announcement does not establish whether a production vehicle will follow.
