It is not a reliable way to secure a lower price or a better future model: Mazda’s published figures are historical, and the company said its September 2025 MSRP adjustment did not apply to inventory already carrying window labels.
When waiting for the right configuration makes sense
The 2025 lineup combines two roof styles, three regular trims, and different transmission availability. All models use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated by Mazda at 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Sport and Club are manual-only; Grand Touring is offered with a six-speed manual or an available six-speed automatic. If one of those choices is non-negotiable, waiting to find a matching car may be more sensible than compromising. It does not establish that more suitable inventory will appear.
Choose the roof you actually want
Mazda’s FAQ asks, “What is the difference between the Mazda MX-5 Miata and the MX-5 Miata RF?” The regular Miata has a manually folding cloth soft top. The RF has a power-operated retractable fastback roof that opens or closes at the push of a button; Mazda describes it as combining a coupe-like closed roof with convertible operation. Consider which arrangement fits your preferences rather than assuming one is universally better.
Match trim and transmission
Sport and Club come only with a manual transmission. Grand Touring is the option to consider if you want an automatic, while it is also available with a manual. Compare the equipment and package on the specific car, not just its trim name: the window sticker is the place to verify what is included.

Why the actual window sticker matters
Mazda North American Operations’ 2024 pricing release initially listed these 2025 starting MSRPs. Destination, taxes, title, and other fees were extra.
| 2025 configuration | Initial starting MSRP |
|---|---|
| Sport soft-top | $29,530 |
| Club soft-top | $33,030 |
| Club RF | $40,850 |
| Grand Touring manual soft-top | $34,830 |
| Grand Touring automatic soft-top | $35,750 |
| Grand Touring manual RF | $37,550 |
| Grand Touring automatic RF | $38,520 |
In September 2025, Mazda announced starting MSRPs of $29,830 for the soft-top and $37,850 for the RF. Mazda said the adjustment did not affect dealer inventory, fleet units, or port vehicles that already carried window labels. As a result, 2025 cars may have different sticker histories; do not assume every car received the same adjustment or that its sticker determines the final sale price. Mazda says dealer prices are set by dealers.

When the 35th Anniversary edition is the reason to wait
Mazda announced a US 35th Anniversary model in Artisan Red Metallic with tan Nappa leather, a beige soft top, and a six-speed manual. The announcement specified 300 US examples and a starting MSRP of $36,250. It is a distinct specification, not another name for a regular trim. If that color and interior combination is important to you, contact dealers to verify whether an example is actually available; the announcement does not establish present-day inventory.

When to finish comparing before buying
Waiting can give you time to decide among the documented choices: manual-fold cloth soft top or power-operated RF, manual transmission or Grand Touring automatic, regular trim equipment or the Anniversary specification, and the price shown on the actual vehicle. Mazda’s 2024 pricing release called the 2025 Miata “the best one yet,” but that is Mazda’s assessment, not evidence that waiting will produce a more suitable car, a discount, or greater dealer leverage.
The available official figures describe the US market and announced 2025 specifications. They do not establish what a later model year will change or what a dealer will discount. Base the decision on the car you can verify and the written terms offered for it.
