Ram has ended development of its planned battery-only electric pickup. It has not abandoned its electrified pickup plan altogether: the company has transferred the REV name to a different truck, a range-extended model that uses a gasoline engine to generate electricity and is currently listed as projected for 2026.
What Ram canceled—and what it did not
On September 12, 2025, Stellantis said it would discontinue development of a full-size battery-electric pickup. The canceled vehicle was the all-electric Ram 1500 REV first unveiled in 2023. The company also said the range-extended pickup previously called Ramcharger would be renamed Ram 1500 REV. TechCrunch reported the company’s statement.
That name change is why “Ram 1500 REV” can refer to two different plans. The original REV was designed to run on battery power alone; the current REV is the range-extended truck. Ram’s current product page calls it a range-extended Ram 1500 REV and lists availability as projected for 2026. A projected date is not confirmation that production, customer orders, or deliveries have begun.
How the original REV and current REV differ
| Vehicle | Powertrain | Range figure announced | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original all-electric Ram 1500 REV | Battery-only electric pickup | Stellantis’ 2023 targets: 350 miles with a 168-kWh standard battery or up to 500 miles with a 229-kWh optional battery | Development discontinued in September 2025 |
| Range-extended Ram 1500 REV, formerly Ramcharger | Battery-powered electric drive with a gasoline V6-powered generator | Ram’s current claimed figure: 690 miles | Ram lists projected availability for 2026; production and customer deliveries are not confirmed by that listing |
The two range figures are company-published claims for different powertrains, not directly comparable test results. The original figures were targets announced at the 2023 unveiling; the current figures are Ram’s claims for a projected vehicle.

The canceled battery-only pickup
Stellantis unveiled the all-electric Ram 1500 REV on April 5, 2023. Its announcement described a 168-kWh standard battery targeting 350 miles and an optional 229-kWh battery targeting up to 500 miles. The company also announced targets of up to 14,000 pounds of towing capacity and up to 2,700 pounds of payload. It said 800-kW DC fast charging could add up to 110 miles in approximately 10 minutes. These were launch-announcement targets, not final specifications or independently verified results. Stellantis’ 2023 announcement contains the original figures.
The range-extended pickup now carrying the REV name
The current Ram 1500 REV pairs a 92-kWh battery with a 130-kW generator powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, according to Ram. The battery supplies the electric drive system; the V6 runs the generator to produce electricity. Ram says the generator can also increase power to the motor and gearbox when needed.

Ram lists targets or claims of 690 miles of range, 647 horsepower, 610 lb-ft of torque, 0–60 mph in 4.5 seconds, up to 14,000 pounds of towing capacity, and up to 2,625 pounds of payload. These are manufacturer-published figures for a projected vehicle, not independent test results or confirmed final-production specifications. Ram notes that the vehicles shown on its page are preproduction models.

In December 2024, Stellantis moved the range-extended Ramcharger ahead of the battery-only REV. The company cited “overwhelming consumer interest,” the need to maintain a competitive advantage in the technology, and “slowing industry demand for half-ton BEV pickups.” At that time it forecast Ramcharger orders in the first half of 2025 and an all-electric REV launch in 2026; those were plans announced then, not current milestones. The December 2024 release sets out that earlier plan.
When Stellantis announced the discontinuation in September 2025, its stated explanation was that demand for full-size battery-electric trucks was slowing in North America and that it was reassessing product strategy. That is the company’s rationale for this decision, not proof that demand is falling for every electric vehicle or among every truck buyer.
Ram’s broader powertrain decisions provide context, but do not establish the reason for canceling the BEV. In June 2025, CEO Tim Kuniskis said Ram was bringing the HEMI V-8 back for the 2026 Ram 1500, saying, “Ram screwed up when we dropped the HEMI — we own it and we fixed it.” The company’s release about the HEMI does not say that the reversal caused the electric pickup cancellation. Stellantis’ June 2025 release covers that decision.

What prospective buyers can conclude
- The battery-only Ram 1500 REV announced in 2023 is no longer in development.
- The Ramcharger name was replaced by REV for the range-extended pickup; specifications and range claims for that vehicle should not be confused with the canceled BEV’s targets.
- Ram’s current page projects availability in 2026, but does not establish that the truck is in production, open for customer orders, or being delivered.
