Porsche ended production of the current 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman in October 2025. Its official reporting does not give a precise date when new orders stopped, so buyers should check with a Porsche Centre in their market rather than assume a universal order cutoff. Dealer stock may remain available independently of factory production.
Can you still order a new 718 Cayman or Boxster?
There is no longer a newly produced combustion-engine 718 Boxster or Cayman to order from the factory: Porsche says production of the current models ended in October 2025. But the official sources cited here do not establish when Porsche stopped accepting orders in each market. Nor do they establish whether a particular dealer still has an unregistered car available.
If you want a new-to-you car, ask a Porsche Centre about remaining inventory in your market and confirm the model year, trim, registration status and warranty terms. A car already built or held in dealer stock is different from placing an order for a car to be produced.
When did 718 production end?
Porsche’s 2025 annual report states: “Production was discontinued in October 2025.” The statement covers the current 718 Boxster and Cayman. Porsche’s 2025 business development report records 18,612 deliveries of the two models in 2025, down from 23,670 in 2024.

Those delivery totals are not a count of cars still available to order or buy. Porsche’s separate year-end delivery announcement also reported the production end, but neither source specifies a market-by-market order cutoff.
What happened to deliveries after production ended?
Porsche reported 2,789 deliveries of the 718 Boxster and Cayman in the first half of 2026, 73 percent fewer than in the first half of 2025. Its first-half 2026 update reiterated that production had ended in October 2025. Deliveries after that date can reflect cars produced earlier; they do not mean production resumed.
Is Porsche replacing the 718 with an electric model?
Yes. Porsche’s strategy announcement describes the next-generation 718 Boxster and Cayman as all-electric. The company says it expects the models to support sales in their first full production year in 2028. That is a company expectation, not a confirmed date for opening customer orders or beginning deliveries. The announcement does not establish successor pricing, detailed specifications or a market-by-market launch schedule.
See Porsche’s strategy announcement for its stated plan. Buyers deciding whether to wait should distinguish that production-year expectation from a retail availability date.

Did supply shortages cause the production shutdown?
Porsche’s annual business report mentions supply shortages affecting combustion-engine 718 Boxster and Cayman models in its discussion of the model range. That context does not establish that shortages alone caused the production end. The report confirms the end of production, but it does not attribute it to a single cause. The relevant supply context appears in Porsche’s Combined Management Report.

- Remaining dealer inventory: Ask whether a specific car is physically available and confirm its model year, trim and registration status.
- Used listings: Compare condition, mileage, service history and warranty coverage rather than treating a used car as equivalent to dealer-held new stock.
- Body style: The Boxster is the roadster; the Cayman is the coupe.
- Waiting for the successor: Porsche expects the electric models to contribute to sales in their first full production year in 2028, but the sources cited here do not give an order-opening date or market launch schedule.
