It pairs all-wheel drive and all-terrain tires with a raised, adjustable chassis, while retaining the 911’s high-performance engine and PDK transmission. Porsche completed the planned 2,500-car production run in 2024, so buyers today must look to the used market.
What makes the 911 Dakar different?
Porsche designed the Dakar to expand where a 911 can be driven. Compared with a road-focused 911, its defining changes are increased ride height, a standard lift system, recalibrated suspension, all-wheel drive and tires developed for mixed surfaces. The equipment makes it better suited to gravel and other loose, uneven terrain; it does not make the car a purpose-built rally-raid competitor.
The figures and equipment below are Porsche-published specifications and descriptions, not independent test results. Porsche’s U.S. launch announcement describes the 2023 model, and its technical feature explains the chassis in more detail.
Raised chassis and lift system
Porsche said the Dakar sits 50 mm higher than a 911 Carrera fitted with sports suspension, with a further 30 mm available through the standard lift system. Its technical feature gives maximum ground clearance as 7.52 inches. The lift is part of the recalibrated suspension rather than simply an occasional obstacle-clearing aid.

Porsche says Off-Road Mode automatically selects the raised “High Level” ride height to emphasize traction. The launch announcement says that setting is usable to about 105 mph; the later technical feature describes automatic maximum-height activation up to a stated track speed of 107 mph. Those are separate statements from Porsche, so the thresholds should not be treated as a single independently verified limit.
Suspension and controls
Standard chassis equipment includes rear-axle steering, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), along with engine mounts derived from the 911 GT3. Porsche’s technical feature also describes spring rates reduced by 50 percent against its reference setup and as much as 0.57 inches of spring compression and extension. These are Porsche’s technical descriptions, not independent measurements.
- Rallye Mode: programmed for loose, uneven surfaces and configured to bias power rearward.
- Off-Road Mode: emphasizes traction and automatically engages the raised ride height.
- Rallye Launch Control: a Dakar-specific launch-control feature.
Engine, performance and key specifications
Porsche Cars North America’s November 2022 U.S. launch announcement specified a 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer six producing 473 hp and 420 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed PDK and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive. Porsche quoted 0–60 mph in 3.2 seconds and a 150-mph top track speed, limited because of the taller-section all-terrain tires. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independent test results.

Porsche’s November 2024 production-completion announcement gave a later metric output figure of 480 PS (353 kW) and 570 Nm. That release uses different units and context; it should not be silently substituted for the U.S. launch figures above.

Porsche specified specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires: 245/45 ZR 19 at the front and 295/40 ZR 20 at the rear. The launch announcement also said optional Pirelli P Zero summer-performance and snow tires were available. Anyone replacing tires should confirm current availability, axle position, wheel setup and exact vehicle fitment rather than assuming another tire in a similar size is interchangeable.
Can the 911 Dakar go off road?
Its raised chassis, standard lift, all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires and loose-surface drive modes are intended to broaden the places a 911 can travel. Porsche also offered an optional roof basket rated for up to 92 lb of equipment and an optional roof tent. Those details support a more adventure-oriented use case, but do not establish that the Dakar is suitable for every trail or ready for competitive desert racing. Check route conditions and equipment limits before taking any vehicle off pavement.

Porsche’s Christophorus technical feature reports global development testing and software calibration. It also says the company’s claimed lap time is on a par with a 996 GT3 despite the Dakar’s all-terrain tires and limited top speed; that is Porsche’s reported comparison, not an independently verified lap-time result. Achim Lamparter, Porsche’s General Project Manager for the 911 Dakar, described it as “the most versatile for a sports car, yes. The Dakar is definitely the vehicle with the broadest spread of capabilities in this segment.” That is his manufacturer perspective, not an independent assessment.

The original U.S. launch price and present used-car asking prices are different kinds of figures. Porsche announced a starting MSRP of $222,000 in November 2022, plus $1,450 for delivery, processing and handling, and expected U.S. dealer arrivals in spring 2023. That is historical launch pricing, not a current new-car price.

Porsche said in November 2024 that it had built all 2,500 planned examples and completed production. Because the run is over, shoppers looking for one now need to consider used listings. As one dated example—not a market range or valuation—Porsche Main Line displayed a certified 2023 Dakar at $435,500 before taxes when its listing was accessed October 8, 2026. The listing included dealer/documentation-related charges in its breakdown; its status and price can change.

That single asking price cannot establish what a Dakar is worth or what one will sell for. Compare current listings for the same market and similar model year, condition, mileage, equipment and certification, and distinguish asking prices from completed transactions.
