What the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport is—and what it is not
The Clubsport is a factory-built customer racing car developed for competition. Porsche’s launch material described it as homologated, track-ready from the factory and usable in SRO racing series without further modifications. That language concerns its intended race use; it does not make the car a road-legal daily driver, nor does it guarantee eligibility in every championship or region.

It is important not to confuse it with the road-going 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The shared model name does not mean the two cars serve the same purpose: the Clubsport is a race car for organized competition and track use. A buyer considering one should first identify the series, event rules and local support available, rather than treating it as a road car that can simply be driven to the circuit.

Porsche positions the car between club racing and professional customer racing. In a February 2025 statement, Volker Holzmeyer, President and CEO of Porsche Motorsport North America, described its intended reach as extending “from club racing all the way through IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.” This is the manufacturer’s positioning, not a promise that any particular driver, team or car will qualify for a given event.

Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport specs
Porsche’s official specifications emphasize a high-revving naturally aspirated engine, a dual-clutch gearbox and adjustable chassis components. The figures below come from Porsche’s U.S. launch material and subsequent manufacturer reporting; the power units reflect how those materials stated the output.

The different power labels should be read in context: Porsche’s U.S. launch kit says 500 hp, while its 2025 report gives 368 kW (500 PS). These are the respective published figures, not independent measurements of one standardized test. The cited material does not establish lap times, acceleration figures, top speed or a comparison against rival GT4 cars, so those should not be inferred from engine output alone.
Chassis and aerodynamic setup
Two-way adjustable dampers and adjustable anti-roll bars at both ends give a team setup variables to work with for its circuit and event. Porsche also lists racing brakes and aerodynamic improvements. The available specifications do not set out adjustment ranges, baseline settings, brake dimensions, tire sizes or detailed aerodynamic numbers. A prospective team should obtain the current technical documentation for the specific car and confirm equipment and permitted setup changes with its series.

Natural-fiber composite components
Porsche reports using natural-fiber composite (NFC) components in the hood, fenders, front aerodynamic elements, doors, rear wing and steering wheel. Porsche describes the fibers as flax-based and presents NFC as a potential alternative to carbon-fiber composites. It also says motorsport use can help evaluate materials for possible future production-car applications. That is Porsche’s stated development rationale; it does not establish that those components will appear on future production cars.
How much does a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport cost?
Porsche’s 2022 U.S. launch press kit announced a starting price of $229,000, excluding tax, and identified Porsche Motorsport North America as the U.S. sales and distribution channel at launch. Treat the amount as a historical, launch-era U.S. price—not as a current new-car price, a used-market valuation or a quote for another country.
The Porsche materials cited here do not establish a current list price, used-car range, total running cost, service interval or parts prices. It would therefore be misleading to estimate a present-day purchase or ownership budget by adding a guessed percentage to the launch figure. Availability and pricing may depend on the car’s market, condition and seller, and a race program’s costs are not captured by the original starting price.

What to establish before budgeting
Ask the relevant regional Porsche Motorsport customer-racing organization or a specialist seller for a current written quote. For a used car, establish exactly which car and equipment the price covers and request its documented condition and history. Separately confirm what the chosen championship requires and what the team will need to operate the car. Those are essential budget questions, but the cited Porsche sources do not provide figures for them.
- Purchase: Confirm the current regional price, taxes and what is included in the offer.
- Competition: Ask the organizer about the rules, required specification and eligibility for the intended season.
- Operation: Obtain quotes for the support, service and parts relevant to the car and program rather than treating the 2022 purchase price as a total-cost figure.
Where it races and what its record says
Porsche says the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport has competed in sprint and endurance races, national GT4 championships and one-make series since its 2022 debut. Its launch material also stated that the homologated car could be used in SRO racing series around the world without further modifications. That statement describes the launch-era car and the series Porsche named; each championship’s own rules still determine whether a particular car is eligible for a particular event.
In a report dated February 18, 2025, Porsche said the latest version competed in more than 550 races worldwide during 2024, recording 19 overall victories, 80 class wins and 11 championship titles. These are manufacturer-reported results for that year, not an independently verified measure of likely results for a new owner.

Porsche’s 2025 program announcement included six Porsche Sports Cups with dedicated GT4 classes and six additional series incorporating the car in mixed grids. That describes a dated program, not a guarantee of entry opportunities in every location or season. Drivers should contact the relevant championship or event organizer to check its current calendar, technical rules and entry conditions.
Homologation and the 2027 transition
Porsche’s 2026 report states that the car is homologated until 2027 and that the Porsche 911 GT4 R is scheduled to succeed it in the 2027 season. Porsche also said customer teams would continue to use the 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport in the GT4 sector in 2026. These statements help frame its near-term competition lifecycle, but they do not settle eligibility for every series or event. A championship’s rules, region and season govern; confirm directly with the organizer before buying a car for a specific program.

The clearest fit is a driver or team that wants a dedicated customer race car for club competition, organized GT4 sprint or endurance racing, one-make competition or track events. Porsche describes the car as spanning club-level participation through professional customer racing. The real-world fit depends on whether the buyer has a suitable series, budget, experience, support crew and local access to the car and its service network.

- A defined championship or track program whose current rules accept the car.
- A team or support arrangement capable of preparing and operating a purpose-built race car.
- A budget based on current seller and service quotes, not only the historical launch price.
- A clear reason to choose a homologated GT4 car, such as the intended series, class or event format.
It is a poor fit if you need
- A road-legal car for commuting or ordinary public-road use.
- A car guaranteed to qualify for every GT4 or SRO event without checking the rules.
- A reliable ownership-cost estimate based only on Porsche’s 2022 starting price.
- A complete rival comparison: Porsche’s published figures alone do not establish comparative prices, support, consumables, operating costs or performance.
Before choosing among GT4 cars, compare offers from the same date and region, then verify homologation and eligibility with the series. Also compare local service and parts support, consumables and the level of team readiness each car demands. No complete competitor comparison or operating-cost data is established in the cited Porsche materials.
How the Clubsport fits into the Cayman GT4 lineage
Porsche’s production figures give useful context for the broader Cayman-based GT4 race-car program, but they should not be mistaken for production totals of this exact RS Clubsport version. Porsche says 421 first-generation Cayman GT4 Clubsports were built from 2016 to 2018 and that the 2019 successor had 510 units. Its 2026 report says more than 1,500 Cayman-based GT4 race cars had been built since the category entry in 2016. These are historical and cumulative figures across the lineage, not a count of 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsports.
For a prospective buyer, the lineage figures show the scale and duration of Porsche’s Cayman-based GT4 customer-racing activity; they do not establish the current supply of any specific model, the condition of available used cars or the availability of parts in a particular market.

- Name the competition target. Identify the exact series, class, region and season. Ask the organizer whether the car’s homologation and specification meet that event’s rules.
- Get current regional pricing. Contact Porsche Motorsport’s relevant customer-racing organization or a specialist seller. Treat the 2022 U.S. launch price only as historical context.
- Inspect the specific car and its documentation. Confirm its identity, configuration and condition with the seller and an appropriately qualified race-car specialist. The Porsche materials cited here do not provide a used-car inspection checklist or service history.
- Build a program budget from quotes. Request current estimates for the car’s support, parts and servicing from the people who will provide them. The available figures do not establish these costs or a service schedule.
