A rail-crossing disruption, a crash on Kwinana Freeway and a lane closure on Graham Farmer Freeway affected Perth’s morning commute on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, according to a report published at 7:48am. These were separate incidents, not one metropolitan-wide crash. The report is a dated snapshot, not a live traffic update.

What happened on Perth roads that morning?
The PerthNow report described several separate disruptions around the metropolitan area. At publication, some incidents were still affecting traffic while others had already cleared.
Bassendean: rail-crossing disruption
Boom gates were down at the Guildford Road and Collier Road rail crossing. Transit police were at the intersection, traffic was slow and motorists were urged to find an alternate route.

Bibra Lake: Kwinana Freeway crash
A crash on Kwinana Freeway northbound, before Roe Highway, blocked the left emergency lane. Towing crews had been called. The crash was later cleared, but traffic remained slow when the report was published.
East Perth: Graham Farmer Freeway lane closure
A breakdown on Graham Farmer Freeway westbound, after Victoria Park Drive, led incident response officers to close the left lane. Traffic was slow on approach, and motorists were urged to allow a safe merge.

Other incidents reported as cleared
- South Lake: A truck breakdown on Kwinana Freeway northbound, after Berrigan Drive, had been cleared.
- Wellard: An earlier Kwinana Freeway northbound crash at Mortimer Road had been cleared after debris spread across the lanes.
- Kewdale: A crash at the Tonkin Highway southbound exit to Roe Highway had been cleared after traffic was reduced to one lane.
Is the Kwinana Freeway crash cleared?
The Bibra Lake crash was reported cleared by the time the 7:48am article appeared, but traffic was still slow. That status applies only to the report’s publication time on 11 August 2026; it does not establish current conditions.

How does this compare with longer-term crash data?
The Road Safety Commission’s metropolitan fatal and serious crash map records 278 fatal crashes and 4,501 serious crashes for 2019–2023, based on Main Roads WA’s Integrated Road Information System (IRIS) data. The map was printed on 29 April 2024. These figures describe a five-year period, not the 11 August 2026 commute, a count of all crashes, or a measure of peak-hour congestion.
