The Government of Western Australia says Murdoch Drive was extended south from Farrington Road to connect with Roe Highway and Kwinana Freeway. The project lists improved access to Fiona Stanley Hospital and the Murdoch Activity Centre, as well as intended congestion relief on Murdoch Drive, South Street and Kwinana Freeway. That network connection provides context for route planning, but does not show that Murdoch Drive was used as a diversion during the reported incident. For present-day closures, delays and route decisions, check the Main Roads WA Travel Map before departure. The state government’s page for the Mitchell Freeway southbound smart freeway project also points drivers to the map for current disruption information. Its description says the completed system uses more than 1,400 pieces of smart technology, including electronic signs and message boards, coordinated ramp signals, sensors and cameras to monitor traffic in real time, 24/7. The project page describes goals including improved journey reliability and safety, reduced peak congestion and fewer stop-start conditions at merge points; those network aims do not establish a specific effect on the December 2025 Farrington Road incident. The same page says the Kwinana Freeway northbound smart system can save up to 6 minutes between Farrington Road and the Narrows Bridge during the morning commute. This is a stated system outcome, not a measure of time saved or delay caused by the reported crash.
