To find the cheapest petrol near you in Perth, check the WA Government’s FuelWatch website and use its interactive map. Search near your location, choose the fuel grade you need and compare the listed prices before making a detour. The widely reported 22-cent-per-litre increase was a February 2026 forecast, not a price rise expected now.
How to check Perth fuel prices on FuelWatch
- Open FuelWatch. Go to the FuelWatch website and open its interactive map.
- Search your area. Look for retailers near your current location or the route you plan to drive.
- Select the right fuel grade. Compare the price per litre for the grade your vehicle requires; prices for another grade do not answer what your fill-up will cost.
- Compare location as well as price. Check how far each lower-priced station is from your route and how much fuel you expect to buy. A detour may outweigh a small per-litre saving.
- Check the date attached to the listing. Use the displayed price for your planned purchase rather than relying on an old announcement or a general rule about the price cycle.

What happened to the forecast 22-cent increase?
The 22-cent figure referred to a specific forecast published by the Government of Western Australia on 24 February 2026. FuelWatch expected Perth’s average regular unleaded petrol (ULP) price to rise by 22 cents per litre, to 178.7 cents per litre, from 6am on Wednesday 25 February 2026. It is a historical forecast and should not be treated as an October 2026 prediction or as today’s price. The government announcement also noted that 22 Perth-area sites were offering ULP below 150 cents per litre on the announcement day.
The same announcement listed planned maximum prices for that day: EG Ampol up to 209.9 cents per litre, Ampol up to 204.9 cents, and 7-Eleven, BP and Caltex up to 199.9 cents. These dated figures are not current station prices. They also illustrate why it is better to compare individual nearby retailers than assume a particular brand or suburb will be cheapest.

When FuelWatch prices update
FuelWatch says that in most of Western Australia, retailers must notify their next day’s retail prices by 2pm. Its guidance describes a 24-hour rule under which a retailer’s notified price is fixed for that day. A January 2026 government example said today’s and tomorrow’s prices become available after 2:30pm each day. Check FuelWatch’s live information for the applicable update timing; an announcement’s example is not a substitute for the current listing.
Perth and Mandurah have a recurring price cycle, but it is not a reliable substitute for checking the price for your location and fuel grade. In a January 2026 announcement, the WA Government said motorists would likely wait about a week after the Tuesday low point for prices to return to the bottom of the cycle. ACCC weekly monitoring has also described a typical Perth cycle with a Wednesday high point. These are broad patterns, not a guarantee about a particular station or day. The government’s dated example is available in its price-cycle announcement.

How much could comparing prices save?
FuelWatch says: “WA motorists could save up to 30 cents per litre on any given day, equating to an $18 saving when filling up a 60 litre tank.” That is a potential saving, not a guaranteed saving for every driver; the actual difference depends on the stations, fuel grade and prices available when you check.
The same January 2026 announcement gave a dated example of a 58-cent-per-litre gap between the cheapest and most expensive sites, which could mean a potential $34 saving on a 60-litre tank. That example describes the spread at that time, not a current price difference. Use the listed price and your own likely fill amount to judge whether a cheaper station is worth the drive.
