PerthNow forecast an average diesel price of 217.2 cents per litre for Sunday, March 13, 2022, and described it as the fifth daily record in a row. It also forecast 231.9 cents per litre at Coles Express in Canning Vale.
The article said unleaded had topped $2.12 per litre during that week and diesel was around $2.06 per litre. It placed those prices amid oil-market volatility following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Brent crude, it reported, had been near US$130 a barrel earlier in the week before easing to about US$110; the article put the past-decade average at around US$83 a barrel. What evidence was there of rising e-bike interest?
Neville Tierney, owner of E-Go Electric Bikes, told PerthNow that his business had increased 25 percent since the beginning of 2022. He described customers worried about petrol costs and family budgets, and said some were considering parking or selling a family car while used-car demand was buoyant.

Were high fuel prices also prompting interest in electric cars?
Car dealer John Hughes said petrol costs would create more interest in electric vehicles and, to a lesser extent, hybrids, but he had not yet noticed a significant increase in inquiries. He said electric cars remained relatively expensive and difficult to obtain. At the time of the report, he estimated new-car delivery waits at a minimum of four to six months.
His comments describe the market as he saw it in March 2022, not present-day prices, stock or delivery times. The article offers no comparable total-cost analysis of e-bikes, electric cars and petrol vehicles; choosing between them depends on current local costs, availability, legal and safety requirements, and the trips a person needs to make.
