The Owlet One is a pedal-free, sit-down electric vehicle that looks like an ebike but rides like an electric scooter. New Atlas described it in a July 25, 2024 article by Paul Ridden, citing a 750 W rear hub motor with a reported 3,000 W peak, a 30 mph top speed, and a planned launch around August 2024 at roughly US$2,995 for the first 300 units. Everything below is a 2024 claim. The coverage we found does not confirm that the Owlet One is on sale today, in what final configuration, or at what price.
What the Owlet One is
The Owlet One is an electric scootbike, a hybrid the manufacturer frames as “a new class of urban transportation.” It has a seat, a flat handlebar with a thumb throttle, and flip-up foot pegs, and it has no pedals. The company’s stated reasoning, as quoted in the 2024 article, is that its observation is that pedals are rarely used by high-power ebike riders. Owlet’s name is not attached to a specific spokesperson in that coverage, so the quotes are best read as company positions rather than statements by a named executive.

The table lists what New Atlas reported in 2024. None of these figures has been independently tested in the coverage we reviewed.

Why the 3,000 W figure needs context
The headline number is a peak. A 750 W nominal rating describes the motor’s rated output, while 3,000 W describes what it can briefly deliver. Peak and continuous ratings are not interchangeable, so the 3,000 W figure should not be compared directly with the nominal power of an ebike or scooter. The same caution applies to torque: the up-to-180 Nm figure is a maximum and says little about sustained hill climbing or load-carrying performance.

Battery, range and charging
The battery is removable and rated at 1,500 Wh, which is a large pack by ebike standards. Owlet’s estimated range of 40–60 miles is the number most readers will want, but it is an estimate. Real range depends on rider weight, speed, terrain, wind, temperature, and how often the throttle is used at high output. A 3.5-hour charge time with the included charger is likewise a stated figure. Treat both as expectations until an independent test or owner report confirms them.
Ride setup: seat, controls, wheels and brakes
The Owlet One combines a scooter-style seated position and thumb throttle with bicycle hardware. The 20-inch fatbike wheels and CST road tires, the air-dampened fork, and the Shimano hydraulic disc brakes all point to a bicycle-derived chassis. Because the coverage does not describe the ride feel, the handling of the fatbike tires at 30 mph, or how the foot pegs work in practice, those points are unverified.

Storage and transport size
The reported length of 58–63 inches changes with the wheelbase setting, and the compacted size is listed as 44 × 37 × 21 inches. Those dimensions suggest it can fit in some car boots or hallways, but whether it fits a specific vehicle, lift, or apartment depends on your measurements and on whether the compacted figure reflects the production model.
Price and launch status
Owlet told New Atlas it expected to launch in August 2024 with an initial run of 300 units at approximately US$2,995. The 2024 coverage describes these as planned figures. We did not find confirmation that the launch happened, that units were delivered, or that the price held. Anyone considering a purchase in 2026 should assume the figures are historical until the seller confirms them in writing.

Legal class and where it can be ridden
The 20 mph setting was described as potentially compatible with Class 2, a US-style e-bike category tied to a 20 mph motor-assisted speed. That is not a certification. The 30 mph top speed and 3,000 W peak rating sit well outside that framework, and in many places a vehicle like this may fall under moped, motorcycle, or other motor-vehicle rules that require registration, a licence, insurance, or restrict where it can ride. The coverage does not establish how any regulator would classify the Owlet One, so check your local rules before riding it on public roads.

- Confirm that the model is currently sold, and by whom, with a dated listing or written order confirmation.
- Ask for independent range and top-speed test data, not just the estimates in the 2024 report.
- Ask for the warranty terms, the service network, and the parts supply for the battery, charger, brakes, and tires.
- Check whether the production version matches the reported specifications, especially the battery, motor rating, and weight.
- Confirm how your state, province, or country classifies a motor-assisted seated vehicle with this power and speed before buying.
- Verify the price in writing, because the US$2,995 figure was an expectation for the first 300 units.
