There are plausible used-car leads with more than 400 hp and asking prices below $25,000, but the available evidence does not verify ten cars that meet both conditions today. Treat the examples below as leads to check—not a current, ranked buying list. A strict under-$25,000 cap also excludes any car priced at exactly $25,000.
Which cars appear to meet the price and horsepower targets?
The figures below come from two secondary sources. They are reported examples, not independently verified specifications or live market prices. The first source does not provide enough model-year and trim detail here to confirm that each horsepower figure applies to a specific car; the second gives individual listing snapshots that may no longer be available.

The Mustang figures are individual listing-page examples, not a market-wide price range. The page also displayed a category-wide range of $14,995–$24,995, which should not be mistaken for current pricing of every Mustang or for a guarantee that a particular listing remains active. AutoTech Plus’s visible list included cars above the cap as well, so its reported prices do not establish a complete set of qualifying options.
Why this is not a verified list of ten bargains
The available examples do not establish ten distinct cars that satisfy both conditions. Nor do the reported prices show that these models are generally available below $25,000 in a given location. A historical or secondary-source price is not a current quote for a specific vehicle, and horsepower can differ by model year and trim.

“Bargain” also needs more than a low asking price and a high output figure. The evidence does not support ranking these candidates by reliability, total ownership cost, or performance per dollar. A lower purchase price may leave more room for repairs—or may reflect deferred maintenance, a problematic title, or modifications that complicate inspection.
How to check a specific car before you buy
- Verify the individual listing. Confirm that the car is still for sale and record its asking price, location, model year, trim, mileage, title status, and condition. Apply the $25,000 limit to that car’s actual asking price, not a model-wide estimate.
- Match horsepower to year and trim. Check a manufacturer specification for the exact model year and trim. Do not apply a figure from another generation or version just because the model name is similar.
- Review service records and vehicle history. Look for evidence of regular maintenance, title issues, accident history, and repairs that may be due. Budget for the car’s condition rather than assuming the purchase price reflects its full cost.
- Inspect for neglect or heavy modifications. The Associated Press article reproducing Edmunds’ recommendations advises avoiding cars with obvious deferred maintenance, neglect, or heavy modifications. - Compare the complete ownership picture. Consider mileage, condition, service history, modification status, body style, everyday usability, and the cost of catching up on maintenance alongside horsepower and price.
What the evidence supports
The examples are useful starting points for a search, especially if you are open to older performance sedans, luxury cars, or Mustangs. They do not substantiate the title’s promise of ten verified bargains. Confirm each car’s current asking price and exact factory rating, then judge whether its condition and likely repair needs make it a value for you.
