Opel introduced it in 2021 as a vehicle between a motorscooter and a passenger car. Its launch-era specifications include a top speed of 45 km/h (about 28 mph) and a claimed range of up to 75 km (about 47 miles) on the WLTP test cycle.
What is the Opel Rocks-e?
Opel presented the Rocks-e in 2021 as a compact, two-seat electric quadricycle for city mobility. Its small footprint and enclosed cabin put it between a scooter and a passenger car, but its quadricycle classification and 45 km/h launch-era maximum speed are central to what it can do. It is not a like-for-like substitute for a conventional car on faster roads or longer journeys.
Opel’s 2021 launch materials describe a 5.5 kWh traction battery and a maximum speed of 45 km/h. These are manufacturer-published figures for the launch-era vehicle, not independent test results. The same press kit lists a length of 2.41 m, width of 1.39 m excluding mirrors, weight of 471 kg including the traction battery, and a 7.20 m turning circle.
How far can a Rocks-e go?
Opel quoted up to 75 km of range under the WLTP test cycle for the 2021 vehicle. WLTP is a standardized test figure, not a guarantee of the distance an owner will cover in everyday driving. The official material cited here does not establish independently measured real-world range, so route, conditions and usage should be considered when judging whether it suits a particular daily trip.

How do you charge it?
Opel’s launch materials say the Rocks-e has an integrated three-metre charging cable for connection to a household socket, with a full recharge taking approximately four hours. Opel also said it offered an adapter for charging at public stations. Check the connector, vehicle year and market-specific compatibility before buying or using an adapter; a particular third-party adapter or universal fitment is not established here.
Where does it fit compared with a scooter or car?
The Rocks-e’s enclosed cabin and two seats distinguish it from a typical scooter, while its limited launch-era top speed and quadricycle classification distinguish it from a conventional passenger car. Whether it is a practical choice depends on the journey, local road-access rules, licensing requirements and charging access.

- Against a scooter: it provides an enclosed cabin and seating for two, but its suitability depends on the routes and conditions where it will be used.
- Against a passenger car: its compact dimensions and 7.20 m turning circle support urban maneuverability, but the 45 km/h maximum speed makes it unsuitable for journeys that require higher speeds.
- For daily use: compare the planned route with the quoted WLTP range, and confirm that a household socket or compatible public charging option is available.
Can a 15-year-old drive a Rocks-e?
Germany-specific only: Opel’s 2021 release said the Rocks-e could be driven there from age 15 with an AM licence. That is a historical manufacturer statement, not a guarantee of current eligibility. Rules differ by jurisdiction and may change, so check the current licensing and road-use requirements with the relevant local authority before driving or buying one for a young driver.
