To narrow the choice, compare the exact truck builds rather than relying on a nameplate’s maximum figures.

- Check engine eligibility by trim. Manufacturer pages establish that an engine is offered somewhere in a model line, not that it can be ordered with every trim, cab, bed or drivetrain. Confirm the current order guide or vehicle configurator for the exact build.
- Match the configuration to the work. Towing and payload depend on factors including cab, bed, drivetrain, axle, engine and packages. Compare the ratings for the exact configurations under consideration, not just the highest number advertised for each lineup.
- Separate engine ratings from lineup maxima. Ram’s cited material gives the HEMI a maximum towing figure of 11,320 lb, while its 2026 lineup maximum is 11,610 lb. Those refer to different claims and configurations; the higher lineup figure should not be presented as the HEMI’s rating. Ram’s 2026 specifications are the reference for checking the relevant rating.
Is the Toyota Tundra another V8 choice?
No—not as a naturally aspirated V8 in Toyota’s 2026 U.S. lineup. Toyota describes the Tundra with a twin-turbo V6 and a hybrid version of that twin-turbo V6, rather than a V8. Its published figures are 389 hp and 479 lb-ft for the i-FORCE V6, and 437 net combined hp and 583 lb-ft for the i-FORCE MAX hybrid. Keep the 2027 GM V8 announcement separate
General Motors announced next-generation 5.7L and 6.6L Small Block V8s for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500—not for the 2026 model year. GM lists 481 hp and 501 lb-ft for the announced 6.6L engine. That is forward-looking information, not a specification for a 2026 Silverado or Sierra. GM’s September 17, 2026 announcement quotes Tom Bishop, chief engineer for Small Block engines, describing the announced engines: “They’re engineered to provide truck customers the confidence and performance they expect from a GM V8.”

What these specifications can—and cannot—tell you
The manufacturer materials establish which V8s are offered and publish their rated output. They do not, by themselves, settle real-world fuel economy, reliability, owner satisfaction, local dealer availability, transaction price or which truck is best for a particular buyer. Those questions require evidence about the specific vehicle, market and use case. Before choosing, verify that the desired V8 is orderable on the trim you want, then compare the exact truck’s towing and payload ratings against your needs.
