Fleet World described it as the dual-brand group’s best-ever month, but the figure was preliminary: the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) scheduled its final September data for 5 October 2026.
What does the 6.37% market share mean?
The 6.37% figure is the combined share attributed to Omoda and Jaecoo in Fleet World’s report of preliminary SMMT figures. It means the group accounted for a reported 6.37% of UK new-car registrations during September—not that either marque individually held that share. The SMMT table reports marque data separately rather than displaying a combined Omoda&Jaecoo row. Fleet World’s report gives the combined total as 22,296 registrations.
September is a major UK registration period because of the plate change. The SMMT says the month typically accounts for around one in seven annual registrations, so a record September should not be read as a stable annual market share.
How did the wider UK market perform?
The UK recorded 350,518 new-car registrations in September 2026, up 12.1% from 312,793 in September 2025. The SMMT called it the strongest September since 2017 and the tenth consecutive month of market growth. Omoda&Jaecoo’s reported result therefore came in a market that was expanding overall. SMMT’s September release and registration data provide the independent market context.

The SMMT’s preliminary model ranking placed the Jaecoo 7 first, with 10,813 registrations. That is the figure for the Jaecoo 7 alone; it is not the combined Omoda&Jaecoo total. The ranking identifies the month’s leading model in the preliminary table, not a measure of vehicle quality or long-term popularity.
What do the separate Omoda figures show?
The SMMT data page lists 7,241 Omoda registrations in September 2026, representing 2.07% of the market. For September 2025 it lists 4,323 registrations and a 1.38% share. These are Omoda marque figures, not the group total. The table’s extracted layout does not support safely deriving Jaecoo’s September count from adjacent rows, so no separate Jaecoo figure is stated here.

How firm is the record claim?
Fleet World described the combined result as Omoda&Jaecoo’s best-ever month. The SMMT’s preliminary release independently establishes the overall market total and the Jaecoo 7’s position in the model ranking, but it does not itself label the combined 6.37% result a historic record. OMODA UK also repeated the 22,296 total in a brand-owned post; its additional claims about growth and electrified registrations are not needed to establish the reported share.
Because the September figures were preliminary when reported on 2 October 2026, the combined result should be treated as provisional until the SMMT’s scheduled final publication on 5 October. SMMT registration counts track vehicles registered through UK main dealer networks or head-office direct sales operations. They describe registrations, not reliability, owner satisfaction, profitability or future demand.

What else was happening in the September market?
Across all manufacturers, battery-electric cars accounted for 99,199 registrations and 28.3% of the market in September 2026. Plug-in hybrids accounted for 59,563 registrations, or 17.0%. These are market-wide figures, not Omoda&Jaecoo-specific results. SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: “September’s record EV performance is a major achievement. Drivers are increasingly embracing the growing choice of models made available and high fuel prices are also undoubtedly giving more consumers reason to consider going electric.”
