Em geral, a altura é a distância entre a borda superior do tubo e a superfície do óleo, mas a posição do garfo, a mola e o procedimento de retirada do ar precisam corresponder às instruções daquele modelo.
O que significa altura do óleo ou air gap?
A altura do óleo, também chamada de air gap, é a distância da borda superior do tubo da bengala até a superfície do óleo. Ela não é necessariamente igual à quantidade de óleo usada no abastecimento: a altura é verificada dentro do garfo, em condições definidas pelo fabricante. O manual de serviço determina a referência correta e se o tubo deve estar comprimido, se a mola precisa ser retirada e como o ar deve ser removido.
Consulte o manual correspondente à marca, ao modelo, ao ano e à versão da suspensão antes de desmontar. Garfos diferentes — inclusive os lados esquerdo e direito de uma mesma aplicação — podem ter especificações distintas.
Por que a medida importa?
- Comportamento da suspensão: segundo as instruções da Motion Pro, um nível mais alto aumenta a resistência perto do fim do curso, enquanto um nível mais baixo deixa o último terço mais macio.
- Risco de excesso: óleo demais pode causar trava hidráulica e vazamento nos retentores.
- Segurança: a Harley-Davidson alerta que a quantidade incorreta de óleo pode afetar a dirigibilidade e provocar perda de controle.
Use somente o tipo e a viscosidade especificados para a aplicação. Não trate um óleo mais grosso ou mais fino como substituto equivalente sem autorização do fabricante.

Como medir sem presumir uma especificação
O procedimento abaixo explica a lógica da medição, não substitui as instruções específicas da moto. A sequência de desmontagem, as condições de medição e os torques devem vir do manual de serviço.
- Prepare a moto com segurança. Sustente-a de forma estável, normalmente com a roda dianteira suspensa quando o procedimento exigir. Alivie a pressão de ar e remova tampas somente conforme as instruções do fabricante.
- Acesse o garfo conforme o manual. Retire apenas os componentes indicados. Em muitas aplicações, a medição é feita com as molas removidas e os tubos totalmente comprimidos, mas confirme se essa condição vale para o seu garfo.
- Adicione o óleo correto e retire o ar. Siga o procedimento indicado para movimentar o garfo, haste ou cartucho e permitir que o óleo se estabilize. Ar retido pode alterar a leitura; não adote um número fixo de bombeamentos sem que o manual o determine.
- Ajuste a ferramenta à altura prescrita. Apoie o colar do medidor no topo do tubo e use a bomba ou seringa para retirar o excedente até que a ferramenta pare de aspirar óleo. A ferramenta ajusta a altura; não determina qual medida sua moto exige.
- Reinstale e aperte conforme a especificação. Recoloque os componentes na ordem indicada e aplique os torques do manual. Molas podem permanecer sob tensão durante o serviço.
A Motion Pro recomenda consultar o manual para confirmar as condições da medição, sangrar o ar de hastes ou cartuchos quando aplicável e seguir os torques e as instruções de instalação do fabricante. Se não tiver suporte estável, ferramenta adequada ou experiência para controlar a mola, procure uma oficina qualificada em suspensão de motos.

Exemplo: por que não se deve copiar a medida de outra moto
As instruções oficiais Harley-Davidson para o kit Dyna Cartridge Front Fork, documento J06038, datado de 12 de novembro de 2014, especificam medidas diferentes entre os lados: 130 mm (5,12 pol.) no lado direito, com o tubo comprimido e a mola e o colar removidos; e 120 mm (4,73 pol.) no lado esquerdo, com o tubo comprimido e a mola removida. Esses números valem para aquela aplicação e procedimento, não para outras motos.
Como encontrar a medida da sua moto
- Identifique marca, modelo, ano e versão do garfo ou da suspensão.
- Consulte o manual de serviço oficial dessa aplicação, não uma recomendação genérica ou uma medida publicada para outra moto.
- Localize a instrução de altura do óleo e confira todas as condições que acompanham o valor: lado do garfo, tubo comprimido ou estendido, mola instalada ou removida e procedimento de retirada do ar.
- Se o manual não estiver disponível ou houver dúvida sobre a versão do garfo, confirme a especificação com uma concessionária ou oficina especializada antes de desmontar.
Para indicar uma medida numérica aplicável, é necessário saber marca, modelo, ano e, quando houver variações, versão ou tipo de garfo.
