Yes—Nissan built an electric version of the R32 Skyline GT-R, but it is a one-off engineering project, not a production car. Shown at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon, the conversion pairs two 160 kW electric motors with a 62 kWh battery taken from the LEAF NISMO RC02. Nissan says it has no plans to sell the car or a conversion kit.
What is the Nissan Skyline GT-R EV?
The R32 EV is a Nissan-built conversion of a second-generation Skyline GT-R, created by a small team of Nissan engineers in Japan. Nissan presented it at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon as a project to explore whether electrification could retain the original car’s appeal and driving experience—not as the announcement of a production GT-R EV program. Nissan’s project account identifies Ryozo Hiraku, a Nissan EV powertrain engineer and R32 fan, as the project lead.
Hiraku said he wondered whether owners might still be able to buy gasoline for the car in 2055 or later. He saw potential in using electric and digital technology to reproduce the R32 GT-R’s appeal for future generations. Nissan’s account says fabrication and assembly were complete when it reported on the project, while tuning and dynamic development were still ahead.
What are the R32 GT-R EV specs?
Nissan published the following specifications for the conversion and its stock R32 GT-R comparison car. These are manufacturer figures, not independent test results.

| Specification | R32 EV conversion | R32 GT-R comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Powertrain | Twin-motor all-wheel drive | RB26DETT inline-six with ATTESA E-TS |
| Motor rating / engine output | Two motors, each rated at 160 kW and up to 340 Nm | 280 PS maximum output, according to Nissan’s historical description |
| Battery / displacement | 62 kWh battery from the LEAF NISMO RC02, installed in the former rear-seat area | 2,568 cc |
| Transmission | No conventional transmission listed | Five-speed manual |
| Curb weight | 1,797 kg | 1,430 kg |
| Length × width × height | 4,545 × 1,755 × 1,340 mm | 4,545 × 1,755 × 1,340 mm |
| Brakes | Upgraded R35 GT-R brakes | Ventilated disc brakes |
| Tires | 235/45R18 | 225/50R16 |
| Seats | Two | Four |
The 160 kW rating is per motor; Nissan does not list a combined system output in its project specifications. The conversion is 367 kg heavier than the stock comparison car, and its battery occupies the rear-seat area. That packaging change, along with the two-seat layout, makes the trade-off as tangible as the change from a manual transmission and six-cylinder engine to electric all-wheel drive.
How does it differ from the original R32 GT-R?
The original R32 GT-R launched in August 1989 with Nissan’s RB26DETT 2.6-liter inline-six and ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive. Nissan’s Heritage Collection entry lists maximum output as 280 PS. The EV conversion retains the all-wheel-drive idea but replaces the engine and conventional drivetrain with two electric motors; it also gives up the rear seats for its battery and uses larger wheels and upgraded R35 GT-R brakes.

Can you buy Nissan’s R32 GT-R EV conversion kit?
No. Nissan says it has no plans to commercialize the conversion or offer a kit. The project is best understood as a one-off exploration of how electrification might preserve the character of a classic car, rather than a product customers can order.

Nissan’s project specifications do not establish a driving range, charging time, acceleration time, or road-legal status. Battery capacity alone does not determine those figures, and the car’s display at an auto show does not prove it is approved for public-road use.
