It is a competition-use crate engine, not a casual street upgrade. Other well-documented standouts include the Aston Martin Valkyrie V12 at 740 Nm at 7,000 rpm and the Lamborghini Centenario V12 at 690 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The available specifications do not support a reliable list of ten, so this guide separates stronger evidence from figures that still need confirmation.
What counts as big torque—and why rpm matters
Torque is rotational force; horsepower describes how quickly work is done. An engine can make substantial horsepower by revving high without leading a peak-torque comparison. A useful torque claim therefore includes both the peak figure and the engine speed at which it occurs.
Units also matter. Chevrolet and Saleen publish pound-feet (lb-ft), while Aston Martin and Lamborghini publish newton-metres (Nm). Lamborghini’s Centenario figure is in CV, a metric horsepower unit, not a torque unit; it is listed separately from the torque comparison.
Strongly supported naturally aspirated engines
| Engine | Peak torque | Displacement | Application and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chevrolet Performance ZZ632/1000 | 876 lb-ft at 5,600 rpm | 632 cu in | Competition-use crate engine; Chevrolet’s 2021 specification. Not represented as a street-legal bolt-in upgrade. |
| Aston Martin Valkyrie 6.5-litre V12 | 740 Nm at 7,000 rpm | 6.5 litres | Road-car engine developed with Cosworth. Aston Martin’s 2018 figures are for the internal-combustion engine alone; the car also has a battery hybrid system. |
| Lamborghini Centenario 6.5-litre V12 | 690 Nm at 5,500 rpm | 6.5 litres | Limited-edition car. Lamborghini’s technical page, accessed in 2026, specifies 40 cars: 20 coupes and 20 roadsters. |
| Original Saleen S7 7.0-litre V8 | 520 lb-ft; peak rpm not stated on Saleen’s current model page | 7.0 litres | Original naturally aspirated configuration; the S7 is no longer produced. Saleen’s current page also shows twin-turbo specifications, which are not the figures listed here. |
| Ford Boss 429 | 610 Nm; peak rpm not stated in Ford’s cited release | Not stated in Ford’s cited release | Historical NASCAR-homologation context. Figure is from Ford’s 2019 South American media release; keep its regional context in mind. |
Chevrolet ZZ632/1000: the peak-torque leader here
Chevrolet lists the naturally aspirated 632-cubic-inch ZZ632/1000 at 876 lb-ft at 5,600 rpm and 1,004 hp at 6,600 rpm. Those are separate peaks, reached at different engine speeds. Chevrolet describes the engine as intended for competition and warns that public-road installation or use is likely to violate emissions requirements in the United States, Canada, and state or provincial jurisdictions. Aston Martin Valkyrie: high-revving V12, not a torque-first design
Aston Martin’s 2018 announcement gives the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 740 Nm at 7,000 rpm, 1,000 bhp at 10,500 rpm, and a maximum engine speed of 11,100 rpm. Those figures describe the combustion engine, not the combined hybrid system. The high torque peak is substantial, but the engine’s high-revving character and power output are central to its identity. Aston Martin’s Valkyrie V12 announcement.
Lamborghini Centenario: limited-edition V12
Lamborghini quotes 690 Nm at 5,500 rpm for the Centenario’s naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, with 770 CV at 8,500 rpm. CV is not interchangeable with torque units, and it should not be relabelled as Nm. The manufacturer lists 40 cars in total—20 coupes and 20 roadsters—on its Centenario technical page.

Saleen S7: keep the original engine separate from the turbo versions
Saleen’s current S7 model page describes the original naturally aspirated 7.0-litre V8 as producing 520 lb-ft and 550 hp. The same page also advertises twin-turbo specifications, so the 520 lb-ft figure belongs to the original naturally aspirated configuration, not the later turbocharged version. Saleen no longer produces the S7. Saleen S7 specifications.
Ford Boss 429: a period figure with regional context
Ford’s 2019 South American media release about the 1969 Boss 429 gives 610 Nm and 380 cv. The release places the engine in a NASCAR homologation story; it does not provide a peak-torque rpm in the cited figure. Because the claim comes from a regional Ford source, it is best kept in its original units and context rather than treated as a directly comparable U.S.-market specification. Ford’s Boss 429 history.

Figures that should not be treated as verified rankings
Several additional engines have figures associated with them, but the available source evidence is weaker: it consists of search-result extracts or secondary references rather than accessible, directly confirmed manufacturer specifications. They can be useful leads, not a sound basis for declaring a definitive top ten.
- 2018 Ford Mustang GT 5.0-litre V8: a Ford Brazilian media-release extract gives 556 Nm at 4,625 rpm and says 82% of peak torque is available at 2,000 rpm. The original page redirects, so the figure is not as firmly documented as the directly accessible specifications above.
- 2020 Ford Super Duty 7.3-litre V8: a Ford model-year specification extract gives 468 lb-ft at 3,900 rpm and describes naturally aspirated intake. The official PDF redirected, so the figure needs confirmation in an accessible technical document.
- 2020 Mustang Mach 1 5.0-litre V8: a Ford European-release extract gives 529 Nm at 4,600 rpm, but the official page redirected during access.
- Dodge Viper 8.4-litre V10: a secondary reference associates the 2013–2017 naturally aspirated engine with 813 Nm. Without a manufacturer source confirming that figure, it should not be presented as a definitive manufacturer specification.
These caveats are why this article does not fill out ten entries by treating every candidate as equally verified. In particular, the missing or weaker documentation makes a precise cross-model ranking misleading.

Why application changes what a torque number means
The engines above span a competition-use crate engine, a hybrid-assisted hypercar, a limited-production Lamborghini, a discontinued supercar, and a historical homologation engine. Their peak figures do not make them interchangeable choices. Intended use, vehicle integration, emissions compliance, production status, and the rpm at peak torque all matter alongside the headline number.
One related example illustrates the difference between torque and power claims: Lamborghini described its 2020 SCV12 track-only car as producing more than 830 CV and called its engine the company’s most powerful naturally aspirated V12 to that date, but the announcement did not publish a torque figure. It belongs in a power-focused discussion, not a torque ranking. Lamborghini SCV12 announcement.
