Nala Renewables says it has issued a notice to proceed (NTP) for construction of the Nala Vuolijoki battery energy storage system in Finland. The project is rated at 125 MW of power and 250 MWh of energy capacity. An NTP marks the company’s stated move from development into construction; it does not mean the facility is complete or operating.
What Nala announced
Nala’s project announcement, dated October 7, 2026, says the company issued the construction NTP for Vuolijoki. The release text is datelined London, October 8, 2026. Nala calls it “one of the largest BESS projects in Finland to start construction,” a company description rather than an independently verified market ranking. Nala Renewables’ Vuolijoki announcement

What 125 MW and 250 MWh mean
The 125 MW figure is the project’s stated power rating; 250 MWh is its stated energy capacity. Those figures alone do not establish the battery’s operating duration or how it will be dispatched. Nala’s announcement does not provide further operating specifications, so a duration should not be inferred from the two ratings.
Where Vuolijoki fits in Nala’s Finnish portfolio
Nala reports a Finnish BESS pipeline totaling 275 MW / 550 MWh, comprising Vuolijoki at 125 MW / 250 MWh, Kauhava at 50 MW / 100 MWh, and Kärppiö at 100 MW / 200 MWh. These are company-reported project and pipeline figures, not an independently measured total for Finland’s battery-storage market. Nala Renewables’ Finnish portfolio announcement

Kauhava is a separate project
Nala said Kauhava was recently energized in its Vuolijoki announcement. An August 2026 update described Kauhava as a two-hour BESS moving into commissioning and testing, with commercial operations expected in the following months. That schedule and status concern Kauhava, not Vuolijoki. Nala Renewables’ Kauhava update
A November 2025 release said Sungrow and KSBR were delivery partners for Kauhava. It specified twenty-two 5 MWh units of Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 system, long-term financing from Societe Generale, and capacity use by Trafigura for European trading activities. Those arrangements apply to Kauhava; Nala has not announced equivalent suppliers, financing or commercial arrangements for Vuolijoki. Nala Renewables’ Kauhava project announcement

What remains undisclosed for Vuolijoki
The NTP announcement does not state a construction schedule, commissioning date or commercial-operation date. It also does not identify the project’s equipment suppliers, builder, financing, grid services, commercial arrangements or permitting status. Nala’s announcement is a company statement; it does not independently verify construction progress or the project’s eventual operating date.
Remy Verot, Nala Renewables’ interim CEO, said the milestone reflects the company’s integrated model across development, financing, construction and operations, alongside partner collaboration. That statement describes Nala’s view of its approach; it does not add project-specific details about Vuolijoki’s contractors or operating plan. Nala Renewables’ Finnish portfolio announcement
