Tesla’s “We, Robot” event already happened on October 10, 2024, in Burbank, California. If you are looking for the livestream, the best option now is Tesla’s official recording on its verified YouTube channel, titled “We, Robot | Tesla Cybercab Unveil.” The presentation introduced the Cybercab robotaxi concept, showed a larger Robovan, and featured demonstrations of Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot.
This is therefore a retrospective guide—not a notice of an upcoming broadcast. The event showed Tesla’s vision for autonomous transportation and robots, but it did not establish that Cybercab was available to buy, that a broad driverless ride service had launched, or that Optimus was a finished consumer product.

What Tesla expected to reveal before the event
Before the presentation, the main expectation was that Tesla would finally show its long-promised robotaxi. Coverage also anticipated an update on Optimus and possible information about autonomy, production, pricing, fleet economics, and the regulatory path for driverless vehicles. The event took place at Warner Bros. Discovery’s studio lot in Burbank and was scheduled as an evening presentation for viewers in the United States. [c003][c004]
Those expectations should not be confused with confirmed disclosures. Predictions about a price, launch date, production volume, regulatory approval, or the readiness of fully driverless Teslas were not facts simply because they appeared in pre-event coverage.
Cybercab: Tesla’s central reveal
The headline vehicle was the Cybercab, a purpose-built autonomous vehicle presented without a steering wheel or pedals. Tesla described it as a robotaxi designed for point-to-point transportation, with the company emphasizing autonomy, safety, affordability, low operating costs, and high vehicle utilization. [c001][c005]
It is important to separate what was shown from what was promised. Tesla unveiled a vehicle concept and described a future transportation service; the event did not prove that Cybercab was commercially available to ordinary buyers or operating as a broad public, driverless ride service.

Tesla’s later investor materials described Cybercab as a purpose-built Robotaxi product based on the company’s next-generation platform. Tesla’s October 2024 quarterly materials cited projected energy efficiency of approximately 5.5 miles per kilowatt-hour for the platform. A later company filing said volume production was scheduled to begin in 2026. That is a company plan, not independent confirmation that production would begin on schedule or that customer service would be widely available at that time. [c005][c007]
The terminology can also be confusing. Cybercab is the name of the vehicle concept. Robotaxi can refer either to that vehicle or, more broadly, to the autonomous transportation product and service Tesla described.

The most direct physical-product connection to the event is a model or collectible car. Tesla’s shop has offered a Cybercab Wind-up Racer, a 1:43-scale diecast model listed at $35 on the cited page and restricted there to verified Tesla vehicle owners. Availability and eligibility can change. Readers comparing third-party options can search Amazon for a Tesla Cybercab model car or Cybercab diecast model, but that search should not be understood to mean Tesla’s official Wind-up Racer is sold on Amazon.
Robovan: a larger autonomous transport concept
Tesla also unveiled the Robovan, a bus-like concept intended for autonomous transportation of groups or goods. Tesla’s event material suggested possible uses including mass transit, construction, and food service. Contemporary coverage described a capacity of up to 20 passengers. [c008][c009]
Compared with Cybercab, the Robovan received even less practical product information. The presentation did not establish a production date, final specification, price, ordering process, or deployment plan. It is more accurate to describe Robovan as a concept vehicle demonstrating possible future applications than as a near-term commercial shuttle or delivery product.
Optimus demonstrations
Optimus was another major part of the presentation. Tesla presented the humanoid robot interacting with guests and framed it as a future general-purpose system that could help with household chores, errands, and other tasks. The event also included robots moving through the crowd and an Optimus dance segment. [c001][c008]

These were staged demonstrations at a company event, not evidence that a consumer-ready humanoid robot was available for purchase. Post-event reporting also raised questions about whether some interactions received remote assistance or teleoperation. The careful conclusion is that Tesla demonstrated Optimus in a controlled event setting, while the presentation itself did not establish fully autonomous, production-ready performance in an ordinary home or workplace. [c010][c011]
That distinction matters because a robot can appear capable during a prepared demonstration without yet being reliable, safe, autonomous, affordable, or legally deployable at scale.
What the event actually established—and what it did not
The clearest way to evaluate “We, Robot” is to classify each claim into one of three categories:
- Demonstration: Tesla showed the Cybercab concept, the Robovan concept, and Optimus interactions at a controlled event.
- Forecast: Tesla discussed future autonomy, safety, operating costs, utilization, production, and possible use cases.
- Deployment: The event did not independently establish mass production, regulatory approval, nationwide driverless operation, or a generally available ride service.
Specifically, the event did not establish:
- a firm consumer purchase date for Cybercab;
- a final Cybercab production specification or price;
- a complete regulatory approval pathway;
- a general availability date for Cybercab rides;
- a production or retail date for Robovan;
- a production or retail date for Optimus; or
- that every Optimus interaction was autonomous rather than remotely assisted.
Tesla’s later filing supplied a planned 2026 volume-production milestone for Cybercab, but “scheduled to begin” should not be rewritten as “launched.” Production, regulatory authorization, and public operation are separate milestones. [c005][c007]

The event should also not be treated as proof that Tesla’s currently available consumer vehicles provide unsupervised autonomy. Tesla’s current product language distinguishes Full Self-Driving (Supervised) from a fully autonomous, driverless consumer product. A driver using Tesla’s current supervised system remains responsible for monitoring the vehicle and intervening when necessary. [c012]

- Ultimate Robot Toys Ideas: Are you looking for an ideal and exciting present for a birthday, Christmas, or festival? Choose this, and children will love it!! It is as entertaining as it is educational, a better choice than a robot dog. In other words, a future purpose-built Cybercab service and today’s driver-assistance offerings are different products with different operating assumptions. The existence of a Cybercab prototype does not turn a supervised consumer vehicle into an unsupervised robotaxi.

After the event, Tesla’s investor materials and filings continued to describe Cybercab as a future Robotaxi product and identified 2026 as the company’s planned start for volume production. That information is more specific than the event alone, but it remains forward-looking. A planned production milestone can be delayed by engineering, manufacturing, supply-chain, safety, or regulatory issues.
For readers assessing progress, the meaningful evidence will be completed production vehicles, regulatory authorization in specific jurisdictions, an operating public service, independently verifiable safety performance, and clear customer-access terms. Announcements, prototypes, and projections are useful indicators of direction, but they are not substitutes for deployment.
How to watch the event critically
When viewing the recording, ask four questions:
- What was physically present? Identify the vehicles and robots Tesla actually showed rather than relying on promotional labels.
- What was measured? Separate a demonstrated capability from an unverified claim about safety, cost per mile, range, utilization, or autonomy.
- What was promised for later? Note whether Tesla gave a firm specification, a forecast, or only a broad aspiration.
- What would count as deployment? Look for production, legal authorization, public availability, and independent confirmation—not just another presentation.
This approach is particularly important for autonomy. A vehicle without pedals or a steering wheel implies a very different regulatory and safety challenge from a conventional car with supervised driver assistance.
The meaning of the “I, Robot” title
The event’s name echoed Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot, a classic collection of science-fiction stories about robots and the rules governing their behavior. That literary connection may interest readers, but it is thematically adjacent rather than a central product takeaway. The substance of the presentation was Tesla’s Cybercab, Robovan, and Optimus vision—not an adaptation or announcement concerning Asimov’s book.
