The Mopar 440 Six Pack was a 440-cubic-inch V-8 fitted with three Holley two-barrel carburetors. Dodge used the name “Six Pack” for the 1969–1971 engine package; Plymouth called its related 440 offering “Six Barrel.” The arrangement gave the big-block a distinctive place in Mopar’s muscle-car lineup, but the available evidence does not support a complete year-by-year specification or performance comparison.
What “Six Pack” means
In Mopar’s terminology, “Six Pack” referred to three two-barrel carburetors—six barrels in total—not a single six-barrel carburetor. The Dodge 440 Six Pack was part of a 1969–1971 offering, alongside a related 340 Six Pack. Plymouth used “Six Barrel” for its counterpart. These are related packages, not the same engine: the 440 and 340 identify different displacements.
Mopar’s performance-parts catalog describes this configuration and period, and says the six-barrel engines filled an important niche during the muscle-car era. It also places them in a broader lineup that drew attention to the Hemi, without claiming that the Six Pack outranked it or any competitor. Mopar performance-parts catalog
How it fit into Mopar’s muscle-car lineup
The Six Pack’s legacy is its recognizable multi-carburetor arrangement and its role as a distinct performance offering. It is best understood as one branch of Mopar’s period engine lineup, rather than as a proven universal alternative to the Hemi. The cited catalog does not provide comparative track tests, sales totals, or a ranking against other engines, so claims that it was the fastest or most successful package go beyond what this source establishes.

What is—and isn’t—established about the specifications
Confirmed configuration
The documented defining detail is three Holley two-barrel carburetors. The catalog supports the broad 1969–1971 period but does not provide a full year-by-year engineering chart or application list.
Horsepower figure needs qualification
A secondary enthusiast specification page lists 390 hp for the 1969 440 three-two-barrel engine. That figure is not independently confirmed here by a factory specification, so treat it as a published 1969 rating rather than a verified rating for every Six Pack year. Mopar1.us specification page

Details that need period documentation
The available sources do not establish exact carburetor model numbers, compression ratios, camshaft specifications, year-specific torque ratings, model-by-model option availability, transmission-specific counts, or production totals. Factory brochures, service manuals, and vehicle build documentation are the appropriate basis for those finer claims.

Larry Shepard’s The Mopar Six-Pack Engine Handbook is presented by its publisher as a guide to rebuilding, restoring, and modifying 440 and 340 Six-Pack engines. It also covers other Mopar engine families, so it is a useful technical reference rather than an exclusively 440-focused manual. Publisher’s handbook listing

Use restoration catalogs as leads, not fitment guarantees
Mopar’s restoration page lists licensed suppliers and categories that include sheet metal for B- and E-body vehicles. That can help orient a restoration-parts search, but it does not confirm that a particular supplier currently stocks a Six Pack-specific component or that a listed part fits a particular car. An older Mopar Performance catalog lists cold-air and non-cold-air Six Pack air-cleaner assembly kits, plus a restoration filter element. The kits are described as designed for 1970–71 B- and E-body vehicles and usable in other applications. Since this is a historical catalog listing, verify the part number, present availability, and exact fit with the seller before ordering. Mopar Performance catalog
