The current MOD Berlin 3 is equipped for city riding, with a rear rack, fenders, integrated lights, a removable battery and a manufacturer-claimed range of up to 45 miles on one battery. But those figures come from MOD’s product listing, not an independent commute test. Whether it transforms a particular commute depends on the rider, route, local e-bike rules and the bike’s substantial carry weight.
What the current MOD Berlin 3 offers
MOD’s Berlin 3 product page lists a 750 W geared hub motor producing 69 Nm of torque and a removable 48 V, 12.8 Ah battery rated at 615 Wh. Pedal assist uses a torque sensor, with five programmable assist levels. The listed equipment also includes hydraulic brakes, integrated front and rear lights, full-coverage fenders, an adjustable stem and a rear Snap-On rack.
Those are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent measurements of how the bike performs in traffic, on hills or over a daily commute. The product page claims up to 45 miles of range with one battery and up to 100 miles with two. No verified current-model range test under specified rider and route conditions is established here, so treat the range as MOD’s claim rather than a promise of what a rider will achieve.
Speed modes, class settings and local rules
MOD lists the standard Berlin 3 as Class 2, configurable to Class 1 or Class 3. The page gives a speed of up to 20 mph and describes an off-road mode up to 28 mph. The mode and configuration affect how the bike operates; they do not establish that every setting is legal on every route.

Before commuting, confirm the exact configuration and applicable rules where you ride. E-bike class definitions, speed limits and access to bike paths vary by jurisdiction. A product page cannot determine which configuration is permitted for an individual rider’s route.
Fit, carrying weight and cargo
MOD lists the Berlin 3 at 58 lb without its 7.5 lb battery, with a maximum payload of 275 lb. The listed rider-height range is 5 ft 11 in to 7 ft 5 in. These are manufacturer figures and guidance; a test fit is useful where available, especially because the stated height range is unusually specific and fit also depends on proportions and riding position.

The bike’s weight matters if a commute includes stairs, a walk-up apartment, or lifting it onto a vehicle rack. Removing the battery reduces the weight being carried, but the remaining bicycle is still substantial. The 29-by-2.0-inch tires, full-coverage fenders, integrated lights, quick-release front mounting bracket and adjustable stem are listed features that may suit everyday riding; the presence of a rack and mounting points does not by itself confirm fit for every accessory.
Accessories and compatibility
MOD’s Berlin Step-Thru 3 page lists a dual-battery kit, Foldylock, bike alarm/finder, compatible Lumos helmets, Snap-On trunk bag, front and rear baskets, quick-release front rack, portable pump and Thule Yepp Maxi 2 child seat. The current Berlin 3 page also describes dual-battery support and rack and mounting features.

Check the exact frame, rack and accessory version with MOD before buying. In particular, the child seat is named on the Step-Thru page; the listing does not establish that it fits every Berlin 3 frame or rack version. Accessory listings also do not guarantee current stock.
Why older Berlin reviews are not reviews of this bike
The Berlin name spans materially different configurations. ElectricBikeReview’s older Berlin entry describes a 2019-era model with a 350 W nominal Shengyi mid-drive and a 48 V, 8.7 Ah (417.6 Wh) battery. Electric Bike Report’s earlier Berlin review also describes a 350 W Shengyi mid-drive. The current Berlin 3 listing instead specifies a 750 W hub motor and a 615 Wh battery. Do not use the older reviews’ motor, battery or ride impressions as evidence for the current model.

Is the Berlin 3 a good commuter e-bike?
Its listed equipment addresses practical commuter needs: lights, fenders, a rack, pedal assist and a removable battery. On the other hand, the bike is heavy to carry, and its advertised range is not independently established for a real route. A useful comparison with another commuter e-bike should look beyond headline motor power and range:
- Range: Compare independently measured results only when rider weight, route, assist setting and conditions are disclosed.
- Handling and assist: Consider motor location and how torque-sensing assist feels during starts, hills and stop-and-go riding.
- Practical fit: Check rider fit, total lift weight, rack capacity and exact accessory compatibility.
- Legal configuration: Confirm the bike’s class and permitted use on the routes you plan to ride.
- Ownership: Check warranty terms, service access and the current price and availability directly with the seller.
MOD’s page listed the Berlin 3 at $1,799 and in stock, with shipping in 5–7 days, when accessed in 2026. Those are time-sensitive listing details; verify them on the product page before purchase. The page also describes a 14-day at-home trial subject to terms, which should be reviewed directly before relying on it.
