On the manufacturers’ published U.S. figures, the 2026 EQE 320+ has a lower listed starting MSRP than BMW’s currently displayed 2027 i5 eDrive40, while BMW publishes more trunk volume. Their rear-drive range estimates are close enough that configuration, charging access, cargo needs and the price on a same-model-year dealer quote matter more than a paper winner.
How do their prices compare?
The available starting prices are not for the same model year, so they are useful context—not a like-for-like price verdict. Mercedes-Benz USA lists the 2026 EQE 320+ at $64,950 and the EQE 320 4MATIC at $67,450. BMW’s current overview displays 2027 i5 prices: $67,100 for the eDrive40 and $70,100 for the xDrive40. BMW says its displayed MSRP may differ from a dealer’s sale price and excludes taxes, title, license, registration and any dealer-adjusted market value.

BMW’s overview also shows an eDrive40 configured at $73,050; that is an as-built example, not its starting price. Actual out-the-door cost depends on location, inventory, equipment, dealer pricing, financing and incentives, none of which these MSRPs settle. Request written quotes for the same model year and comparable equipment before judging which costs less.
Which one has more range?
For rear-wheel-drive versions, the manufacturers’ figures put the cars in a similar range bracket, but they are not directly comparable real-world test results. Mercedes lists 308 miles for the 2026 EQE 320+. BMW estimates 278–310 miles for the 2026 i5 eDrive40. BMW notes that range varies with factors including wheel and tire selection, driving style, accessories, traffic, outside temperature and charging frequency.

For all-wheel drive, Mercedes lists 267 miles for the 2026 EQE 320 4MATIC, while BMW estimates 259–278 miles for the 2026 i5 xDrive40. The range bands reflect configuration differences; everyday results will also depend on conditions. These published figures do not establish which car will travel farther on a particular commute or road trip.
Mercedes says the 2026 EQE names replace the previous EQE 350+ and EQE 350 4MATIC names, and that output increases to 315 hp. Its rear-drive 320+ is listed at 315 hp and 416 lb-ft, with a manufacturer-claimed 0–60 mph time of 5.8 seconds; the 4MATIC is listed at 315 combined hp and 564 lb-ft, with a claimed 5.5-second time. BMW’s current overview lists the eDrive40 at 335 hp and the xDrive40 at 389 hp; those are overview specifications shown alongside 2027 pricing, whereas the range estimates above are for 2026. BMW’s published horsepower figures should not be treated as a same-year comparison with Mercedes without confirming the exact model year and configuration.

What do the charging figures tell you?
The published charging specifications use different measures and conditions, so they do not show which car makes a faster long-distance trip. Mercedes lists 9.6 kW AC charging, a J1772 AC connector, a 170 kW maximum DC rate and 32 minutes for DC charging from 10% to 80% for the 2026 EQE 320+. Its specification lists CCS for DC; the 2026 lineup update says a NACS DC fast-charging adapter is standard. Confirm the adapter and charging compatibility included with the exact vehicle.

BMW says a 240V outlet with its standard Flexible Fast Charger, or an available wallbox, can charge the i5 from 0% to 100% in under 10 hours. For public DC charging, BMW gives an example of adding 100 miles in about 11 minutes at a 350 kW charger. That example is not a direct comparison with Mercedes’ 10–80% figure, and charging performance depends on the vehicle and conditions.

BMW says i5 Supercharger access depends on model year and equipment: Magic Dock sites are available, and use of NACS Partner Tesla Superchargers requires an approved Lectron Vortex Plus DC adapter and a remote software upgrade. BMW notes that the 2026 i5 M60 has a native NACS port; that does not mean the eDrive40 or xDrive40 has one. Network availability and compatibility should be confirmed for the specific car and route.
For either sedan, home charging planning should start with the vehicle’s connector and the home’s electrical capacity. Before buying a 240V Level 2 EV charger or arranging installation, verify the EVSE connector, amperage, circuit capacity and compatibility with the exact car.

Which sedan is more practical?
BMW publishes 17.3 cu ft of trunk volume for the i5; Mercedes lists 10.9 cu ft of cargo capacity for the EQE 320+. Both manufacturers specify seating for up to five. The published figures favor BMW on stated cargo volume, but volume alone cannot tell you whether a particular suitcase, stroller or other bulky item will fit through the opening, or which cabin will feel more comfortable. Bring the items you regularly carry and try them in the actual car.

What should you verify before choosing?
- Price: Compare written quotes for the same model year, drivetrain and equipment, including dealer charges and any applicable incentives.
- Drivetrain: Decide whether rear-wheel drive suits your needs or whether you want all-wheel drive, then weigh that choice against each version’s listed range and price.
- Range configuration: Check the exact vehicle’s certified range and wheel-and-tire setup; BMW’s published 2026 figures are estimates with configuration-dependent bands.
- Charging: Confirm the vehicle’s connector and included adapter, home-charging requirements and access to the fast-charging networks you expect to use.
- Cargo and comfort: Check trunk access with your own luggage, then test-drive both cars for seat comfort, ride, visibility, controls and cabin noise.
- Warranty: BMW states that its high-voltage traction battery has a limited defect warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The reviewed Mercedes pages do not state a comparable EQE battery warranty term, so verify current documents for both before comparing coverage.
