Mercedes-Benz and Microsoft are bringing workplace tools into newer Mercedes vehicles, beginning with the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA. The collaboration combines an enhanced Microsoft Teams Meetings app, native Microsoft Intune integration, MBUX Notes and Calendar, and a planned Microsoft 365 Copilot integration.
That makes the car a potential “third workspace” alongside the office and home office—but not a literal replacement for a laptop. The experience is designed primarily for voice-led access to meetings, calendars and work information, with major restrictions on what a driver can see while the vehicle is moving.

What Mercedes-Benz and Microsoft announced
Announced on July 16, 2025, the partnership is not one product called “Microsoft Office for Mercedes.” It is a collection of integrations between Microsoft’s workplace services and Mercedes-Benz’s newer MB.OS vehicle operating system.

What “turning your car into an office” really means
The headline is directionally accurate, but it needs qualification. Mercedes is creating a connected, voice-accessible communications endpoint—not putting the full desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams on the dashboard.
The announced system is better understood as a way to:

- Manage calendar and notes
- Retrieve certain work information
- Apply corporate access and security policies
It does not establish that a driver can safely edit documents, examine spreadsheets, read long emails, inspect presentations or use every Microsoft 365 function from the moving vehicle.
How Teams works in the Mercedes
The enhanced Meetings for Teams app is intended to let drivers see upcoming meetings through the in-car interface and join meetings using voice interaction. The vehicle’s built-in camera can also be used during a Teams meeting while the car is moving, subject to local law and approval.
Mercedes describes an important safety behavior: when the camera is activated, the driver’s meeting video stream turns off automatically. The driver also cannot see shared screens or presentation slides while driving.

This makes the feature more suitable for a short, audio-first check-in than for a meeting involving screen sharing, visual demonstrations or detailed document review.

What Microsoft Intune adds
Teams is the visible part of the collaboration, but Intune is arguably the more significant enterprise feature. Mercedes describes native Intune integration into MB.OS so business users can sign in with work accounts, separate business and personal data, and apply centralized access policies.
In practice, that could allow a company’s IT department to treat the vehicle as another managed endpoint rather than as an entirely personal device. Intune access must be activated by the organization’s IT administration; a personal Microsoft account or ordinary consumer Teams subscription should not be assumed to be sufficient.
For fleet managers and businesses, the relevant questions are not just whether the car can connect to Teams. They also include:
- Which employees are authorized to use the vehicle’s work functions?
- What corporate data can be accessed from the car?
- How are accounts removed when a vehicle is reassigned, leased or sold?
- How are passenger privacy and camera use handled?
- Does the organization’s security policy permit this type of connected endpoint?
Intune integration may improve control, but it does not automatically make every vehicle compliant with every company’s security requirements.
What Microsoft 365 Copilot is supposed to do
Mercedes says it is working with Microsoft to integrate Microsoft 365 Copilot into newer vehicles. The company gives examples such as using voice prompts to summarize emails, retrieve customer information, prepare for upcoming meetings and manage daily work.
Those are announced integration goals and examples—not proof that every new Mercedes currently offers a complete Copilot experience. Availability should be checked for the specific vehicle, market and software version.
Microsoft’s Copilot pricing page describes Copilot as working across Microsoft 365 applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. That does not mean all of those desktop-style functions are exposed through the Mercedes interface.

Is Microsoft Copilot included with the car?
There is no evidence that buying a Mercedes automatically includes a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. These are separate parts of the setup:

- Vehicle hardware and software: The compatible Mercedes model, MB.OS generation, MBUX system and camera.
- Mercedes connected services: The required package, data allowance and market-specific activation.
- Microsoft account: An eligible work or business account for the relevant services.
- Intune administration: Corporate activation and policy management where required.
- Copilot licensing: A qualifying Microsoft 365 Business plan and, where applicable, a paid Copilot add-on.
Microsoft’s U.S. pricing page currently lists Copilot Business at a promotional $18 per user per month when paid yearly, alongside a standard annual figure of $21 per user per month and a $25.20 per user per month monthly-commitment price. The page says the cited promotion runs from July 1 through September 30, 2026, and that pricing, eligibility and availability vary by market and terms. Those are Microsoft software prices, not Mercedes vehicle or package prices.
Compatibility and prerequisites
Mercedes says availability depends on the vehicle model, configuration, market, active packages, data volume and IT administration. The cited productivity features require:
- A compatible vehicle, starting with the all-new CLA
- MB.OS with the relevant fourth-generation MBUX setup
- An active Entertainment Package Plus
- Sufficient vehicle data volume
- Availability in the applicable country or region
- IT activation for Intune business accounts
Mercedes says the Intune rollout will occur in Europe and the United States, but that does not mean every CLA configuration in those regions receives every feature. Nor does it establish worldwide availability.
Existing Mercedes vehicles with MBUX should not be assumed to qualify. The required operating-system generation, camera integration, app version and connectivity may not be available through a software download or retrofit.

Safety: less screen distraction does not mean no distraction
The system addresses several kinds of distraction differently:
- Visual distraction: Mercedes limits the driver’s view of meeting content by blocking shared screens and slides while driving.
- Manual distraction: Voice controls can reduce the need to handle a phone or interact extensively with the display.
- Cognitive distraction: A meeting can still require listening, remembering, responding and making decisions. Software cannot eliminate that mental workload.
Mercedes says the camera functionality has been approved for use on the move and complies with local laws. Legal approval is not the same as proof that attending every type of meeting is advisable while driving. A visually intensive meeting, a difficult negotiation or any call that demands sustained attention may be inappropriate even if the interface is technically permitted.

Drivers should follow local laws and use good judgment. The safest place to read documents, view slides, take detailed notes or participate in a demanding meeting remains a parked vehicle or a conventional workspace.
Privacy and IT issues to consider
An in-car camera and work-account access create practical questions beyond the feature list. Companies should consider whether passengers have consented to appearing on camera, whether meetings may be held in a shared vehicle, and how corporate policies address conversations recorded or processed through connected services.
Vehicle handover is another important edge case. Before a company car is sold, returned or assigned to another employee, the organization should remove work-account access and confirm that the vehicle is no longer enrolled under its management policies.
Connectivity is also a dependency. Cloud-based Teams, calendar, Intune and Copilot features may be limited by weak mobile coverage, unavailable data service or an expired Mercedes package.
Who could benefit from it?
- Microsoft-heavy businesses: Organizations already using Microsoft 365 and Intune may find the integration easier to manage.
- Fleet operators: Centralized policies and account controls are more relevant when multiple employees use company vehicles.
- High-mileage business travelers: Voice-first calendar and meeting access may be useful during frequent travel, particularly for short audio-led calls.
- Drivers who need hands-free information: Calendar appointments, notes and meeting details can be more useful than a full office suite in motion.
Who should skip it?
- Buyers who want to edit documents or work with spreadsheets from the car
- Workers whose meetings depend on presentations, screen sharing or visual demonstrations
- Consumers without an eligible Microsoft 365 work account
- Organizations without an Intune administration process
- Owners of older MBUX vehicles expecting a complete retrofit
- Anyone uncomfortable with work data or cameras inside a connected vehicle
For occasional access, a smartphone with Teams and Bluetooth audio, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto where supported, or a laptop used only while parked may be a more practical solution. Those alternatives do not provide the same native enterprise integration, but they may avoid the cost of buying a new vehicle for software features.
What to check before buying
- Confirm that the exact model and model year use the required MB.OS and MBUX generation.
- Ask the Mercedes retailer or regional configurator whether the feature is offered in your country and trim.
- Verify that Entertainment Package Plus and the required data service are active.
- Check whether the vehicle includes the necessary camera and connectivity hardware.
- Ask your IT administrator whether Intune enrollment is supported and who manages the account.
- Confirm that your Microsoft 365 plan qualifies for the required Teams or Copilot features.
- Calculate the complete cost separately: vehicle, Mercedes services, data, Microsoft 365 licensing and any Copilot add-on.
The exact Mercedes package price is market- and configuration-dependent and should be checked against the buyer’s country, trim and model year rather than assumed from another region.
Bottom line
Mercedes-Benz and Microsoft are making newer Mercedes vehicles into managed, voice-first workspaces, beginning with the all-new CLA. Teams can provide meeting access, Intune can connect the car to corporate controls, and Copilot is being developed for voice-based work assistance.
But this is not Microsoft Office in every Mercedes, and it is not a laptop replacement. The feature is limited by vehicle generation, package, data service, market, account eligibility and IT activation. Most importantly, it is designed to reduce visual and manual interaction—not to remove the cognitive distraction of working while driving.
