Mercedes says its 646-hp Mythos model is limited to 30 cars and sold out before its world premiere. The Vantage is the more relevant current sports-coupe option for buyers, though its availability depends on market and is not established by the manufacturer page cited here.
First, a model-name correction: the V8 is the CLE 646, not a regular CLE 63
Mercedes-Benz’s September 10, 2026 announcement identifies the V8 special as the Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung. It is a Mythos Series model based on the CLE 53 platform, configured as a road-legal, track-focused car. Mercedes-AMG’s CLE Coupé page describes the CLE 53, while the 2026 Mercedes-Benz USA CLE Coupe guide lists CLE 300 and CLE 450 variants. Those are distinct cars; the guide’s prices are not a basis for estimating the CLE 646’s price.

Choose the CLE 646 for rarity and a track-oriented brief—if you can access one
Mercedes describes the CLE 646 as focused on driving dynamics on winding roads and closed circuits. Its 30-car production limit and announced sellout make it an ultra-limited collector proposition, not a normal new-car alternative most shoppers can simply order. Mercedes also reports around 170 kg of weight reduction, but does not identify the comparison baseline in the reviewed announcement, so that number cannot be translated into a precise curb-weight advantage over the Vantage.
Consider the Vantage if you want a current V8 sports coupe
Aston Martin presents the Vantage as a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car. Its stated 670 bhp and 590 lb-ft make it the higher-output car by the quoted manufacturer power figures, but that alone does not establish which is quicker on a circuit or more rewarding to drive. The Vantage’s explicit 2+0 layout means it is configured for two occupants, not a conventional rear-seat role.

What the specifications do—and do not—settle
- Acceleration: Aston Martin publishes 0–60 mph in 3.4 seconds in narrative copy and 0–62 mph in 3.5 seconds in its specification table. These are different speed endpoints, and there is no corresponding official CLE 646 time in the reviewed announcement.
- Price: Mercedes’ reviewed CLE 646 announcement gives no price. The US CLE guide’s CLE 300 and CLE 450 prices apply to different models and should not be used as a proxy.
- Running costs and reliability: the cited official material does not establish a comparative ownership-cost or reliability advantage.
- Fuel economy: Aston Martin’s US page lists EPA figures of 15 mpg city, 22 highway, and 18 combined, and marks homologation status “Under homoglation.” These are US-page figures and should not be generalized to other markets or treated as proof of finalized homologation.
Verdict by buyer type
The Vantage is the more sensible one to investigate if you want a current-production V8 coupe and can confirm local availability. The CLE 646 is the more exclusive, explicitly track-focused choice in concept, but its 30-car run was announced as sold out before its premiere; treat it as a scarce collector car rather than a showroom rival. Without comparable testing, verified market-specific prices, or current inventory information, there is no evidence-based overall performance or value winner.
