It was a limited-production soft-top with a six-speed manual, Artisan Red Metallic paint and a tan interior. Mazda first announced 300 U.S. cars, then said it had secured 50 more, bringing the announced total to 350.
What Mazda announced for the U.S.
Mazda North American Operations unveiled the 2025 MX-5 Miata 35th Anniversary around the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The U.S. edition was specified only as a soft-top with a six-speed manual transmission. Its signature combination was Artisan Red Metallic paint, a beige soft top, bright-finish 17-inch wheels and serialized front-fender badging.
Mazda listed a tan Nappa leather interior with anniversary-logo embossing, plus a tan leather-wrapped key-fob sleeve. The manufacturer’s equipment list also included heated seats, Bose audio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alexa Built-in, navigation through an 8.8-inch Mazda Connect display, an asymmetric limited-slip differential, shock tower bracing and sport-tuned Bilstein dampers. These are Mazda’s stated specifications, not independent test findings.
How many were announced, and what was the launch price?
Mazda’s January 24, 2025 announcement initially said 300 examples would be available in the United States. The same announcement later explained that customer demand and pre-order reservations prompted Mazda North American Operations to secure 50 additional cars, revising the announced U.S. production total to 350. Mazda’s separate anniversary model page still says 300, so the dated release records the later change.

The announced starting MSRP was $36,250 for the U.S. soft-top with six-speed manual transmission. That historical launch price excluded $1,185 destination and handling—or $1,230 in Alaska—as well as taxes, title and additional fees. Mazda said dealers set actual sale prices. It is not a current price quote, and the announcement does not establish whether any cars remain available.
How the U.S. and Japan editions differed
Mazda Motor Corporation announced a separate Japanese Roadster 35th Anniversary program on December 25, 2024. It covered both the soft-top Roadster and the Roadster RF, with reservations opening that day and sales planned for early February 2025. That Japanese RF offering should not be confused with the U.S. edition, which Mazda announced only as a soft-top/manual configuration.

In its December 25, 2024 release, Mazda Motor Corporation reported that Roadster sales had exceeded 1.2 million units since the first generation debuted in 1989. That is Mazda’s company-reported figure, not an independently verified total.
What the anniversary was marking
The anniversary marked 35 years since the first-generation MX-5 debuted in 1989. Mazda also held a separate event in Hiroshima: a November 1, 2024 notice described a December 7 museum program featuring a talk by engineer Masao Inoue on the MX-5’s driving philosophy and an exhibit of past models, including anniversary cars from earlier generations. That Japanese museum event was distinct from the U.S. edition and its owner experience.

What to know if you are looking for one
Mazda’s U.S. announcement described a special owner experience but did not detail its contents or establish its present status. The announcement directed interested customers to local Mazda dealers, but it does not verify current inventory or transaction prices. Check current dealer listings directly rather than treating the launch figure or production announcement as proof that a car is available.
