Mazda’s 2024 launch announcement said the China-market EZ-6 PHEV was expected to travel more than 1,000 km on a tank of fuel, while Changan Mazda’s displayed 15-minute charging figures apply to BEV trims. The two claims in the headline should not be presented as confirmed EREV specifications.
What Mazda has said about the EZ-6 EREV’s range
At Auto China on April 25, 2024, Mazda said the EZ-6 PHEV was expected to achieve “over 1,000km of driving range on a single tank of fuel.” Mazda’s announcement does not give a test cycle in the surfaced passage, and it does not state an 800-mile figure. The 1,000-km statement is an announced expectation, not a verified test result or a cycle-specific rating.
The EZ-6 is offered in China as both a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and a range-extender vehicle (EREV, also described as a plug-in hybrid or PHEV in Mazda’s announcement). Mazda and Changan developed the model through their partnership. Mazda’s 2025 explanation of its electrification lineup identifies the EZ-6 among the models developed by leveraging alliances.
Those labels matter: a combined driving-range claim for a fuel-using range-extender vehicle is not the same as an electric-only range rating. The official material cited here does not establish a trim-specific combined-range figure with a test cycle, nor does it provide fuel-consumption data after the battery is depleted.

Does the EZ-6 EREV charge from 30% to 80% in 15 minutes?
The current Changan Mazda comparison page displays a 15-minute 30–80% fast-charge time alongside EZ-6 BEV trims. Its displayed BEV range figures are 480 km and 600 km under the CLTC cycle. The comparison page does not establish that the same charging time applies to an EREV trim.
Charging specifications should be tied to the specific powertrain and conditions. The surfaced EZ-6 comparison rows do not provide an EREV-specific 30–80% time, so the BEV figure cannot safely be transferred to the range-extender model.

Why the Mazda6e’s charging figure does not settle it
Mazda UK separately advertises up to 348 miles of range and a 15-minute 30–80% charge for the Mazda6e, a different, battery-electric model. Mazda says that charging claim assumes a 200 kW DC charger and battery and ambient temperatures of 25°C ±2°C. The Mazda6e product page is evidence about that BEV under stated conditions—not about the EZ-6 EREV.
Verified figures and what they apply to
| Figure | Model or version | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Over 1,000 km on a single tank | EZ-6 PHEV/EREV; Mazda announcement, April 2024 | Expected driving range stated at launch; no test cycle appears in the cited passage. |
| 15 minutes, 30% to 80% | EZ-6 BEV trims; Changan Mazda comparison page accessed October 4, 2026 | Displayed BEV specification; not established for an EREV trim. |
| 480 km and 600 km, CLTC | EZ-6 BEV trims; Changan Mazda comparison page accessed October 4, 2026 | Displayed BEV range figures under CLTC; not EREV range figures. |
| Up to 348 miles; 15 minutes, 30% to 80% | Mazda6e BEV; Mazda UK product page accessed October 4, 2026 | Separate model. The charging time is stated with a 200 kW DC charger and battery/ambient temperature of 25°C ±2°C. |
What remains unconfirmed
- An official, trim-level combined-range figure for the EZ-6 EREV with its test cycle.
- An EREV-specific 30–80% charging time and the conditions used to determine it.
- Cycle-specific fuel-use data for the EREV, including after battery depletion.
Until those details are supplied in an official specification or homologation document, the accurate description is that Mazda announced an expected range of more than 1,000 km on a tank for the EZ-6 PHEV, while the surfaced 15-minute EZ-6 charging specification belongs to BEV trims.
Quick Recap
Rank #4
- WORKS WITH EVERY NON-TESLA EV: Standard J1772 connector plugs straight into Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Rivian, Lucid and every other EV or plug-in hybrid sold with a J1772 port - no adapter needed. Tesla drivers can charge too, using the J1772 adapter that comes with the car. The extra-long 25 ft cable easily reaches across a garage or driveway.
- HARDWIRED - PROFESSIONAL INSTALL: This Level 2 charger is hardwired (not plug-in), so a licensed electrician installs it per National Electrical Code. It delivers up to 48A on a dedicated 60A, 240V circuit - enough to charge most EVs fully overnight. Want more speed? You can set DIP switches 4 and 5 to unlock 50A on a dedicated 70A circuit. Before ordering, check your car's port type and that your electrical panel can support the circuit.
- CONTROL FROM YOUR PHONE: A stronger built-in antenna keeps the charger online even in a garage or basement. Use the free app to start and stop charging, set the charging speed (6-48A), get reminders, and track how much energy and money each charge uses. Requires a 2.4 GHz home WiFi network.
- SAFETY-CERTIFIED & WEATHERPROOF: Independently tested and certified (UL, ETL, FCC, Energy Star). A fully sealed IP66 / NEMA 4 housing stands up to rain, snow, heat and dust indoors or out, and internal steel shielding protects the electronics for years of reliable use.
- GLOW-IN-THE-DARK HOLSTER: The included high-visibility holster glows in the dark so you can find and dock the plug easily at night. Holds the connector securely when not in use.
