If you want a new V8 Mustang with a manual transmission in the U.S. for 2026, Ford offers two choices: the Mustang GT and the more track-focused Dark Horse. The GT is the straightforward answer for a traditional V8-and-stick-shift combination, but it is not the only one. The current Charger comparison does not identify a manual V8 rival: its R/T and Scat Pack are described as turbocharged six-cylinder models with an automatic gearbox.
Does the 2026 Mustang GT come with a manual?
Yes. Ford lists a 6-speed manual transmission with rev matching as standard on the 2026 Mustang GT. A 10-speed automatic is also available. The GT’s 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 is rated at 480 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque; with active exhaust, Ford lists 486 hp and 418 lb-ft. These are Ford’s model-year specifications, not independent test results. Ford’s 2026 Mustang comparison lists the configurations and figures.
Is the GT the only manual V8 Mustang?
No. The 2026 Mustang Dark Horse also has a 5.0L V8 and an available manual, so the GT is not the only new manual V8 Mustang. Ford rates the Dark Horse at 500 hp and 418 lb-ft. For 2026, its 10-speed automatic is standard and its 6-speed TREMEC manual is optional, according to Ford’s Dark Horse specifications and its 2026 Mustang order guide.
GT or Dark Horse?
Choose by the kind of car you want, not just the output figure. The GT makes the manual standard, while the Dark Horse pairs its more powerful, modified V8 with track-oriented intent and makes the manual an option. Ford’s specifications establish those powertrain differences; they do not by themselves establish which model is better for a particular driver.

What about the Charger, Camaro, and Challenger?
The Dodge Charger is not a direct manual-V8 alternative in the comparison available for the 2026-era models. The Associated Press’ April 2026 republication of an Edmunds comparison describes the R/T and Scat Pack as turbocharged inline-six models and discusses their automatic gearbox. It also characterizes the Charger as roomier, while the Mustang has tighter rear accommodation and a more performance-focused character. That comparison is useful context, not an official Dodge equipment list. Read the AP/Edmunds comparison.
Camaro and gas-powered Challenger discontinuation reports date to 2023. They document announcements at that time, but do not establish a complete inventory of every 2026 vehicle, market, or dealer. The Associated Press reported on those announcements in August 2023. For a buyer, the useful distinction is that the verified 2026 manual V8 choices covered here are Ford’s Mustang GT and Dark Horse; this is not a claim about every vehicle worldwide that might be called a muscle car.

Which one fits your priorities?
| Model | Engine and Ford-rated output | Manual for 2026 | Best fit to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mustang GT | 5.0L Ti-VCT V8; 480 hp and 415 lb-ft standard, or 486 hp and 418 lb-ft with active exhaust | Standard 6-speed with rev matching | A manual V8 Mustang without having to select an optional transmission |
| Mustang Dark Horse | Modified 5.0L V8; 500 hp and 418 lb-ft | Optional 6-speed TREMEC; 10-speed automatic standard | A more track-focused Mustang, if you want its added performance intent and are prepared to specify the manual |
| Dodge Charger R/T or Scat Pack in the cited 2026-era comparison | Turbocharged inline-six; output figures not stated in the cited comparison | Automatic discussed; a manual V8 configuration is not presented | Consider for the Charger’s larger cabin rather than as a verified manual-V8 substitute |
Ford figures are from its 2026 specifications; Charger descriptions are from the April 2026 AP/Edmunds comparison. The table distinguishes reported configurations, not a complete survey of all vehicles or regional stock.

It is too broad as written. For a U.S. shopper seeking a new manual V8 among the Ford models and contemporary Charger comparison covered here, the Mustang is the relevant choice, but Ford offers both GT and Dark Horse. A narrower claim—that the GT is the accessible standard-manual V8 Mustang—is supported by the transmission specifications. The available sources do not establish exhaustive 2026 global availability, dealer inventory, pricing, or manual take-rates, so none should be inferred from these specifications.
