For a U.S.-oriented buyer comparing the breadth of work a brand’s documented lineup can cover, this editorial ranking puts John Deere first, followed by Case IH, Massey Ferguson, New Holland, and Kubota. It ranks portfolio breadth shown on official product pages—not build quality or the best tractor for every buyer.
What this ranking measures—and what it does not
This is a cross-class comparison for U.S. buyers weighing brands for property, livestock, and agricultural work. The ordering reflects how broadly the reviewed manufacturer pages describe each brand’s tractor offerings, from smaller machines toward larger agricultural work. It is an editorial synthesis of those descriptions, not a measured performance comparison. The pages do not provide a common basis for scoring reliability, total ownership cost, resale value, or dealer support.
That distinction matters: a compact tractor and a high-horsepower 4WD or track machine are built for different jobs. A broad lineup can give buyers more classes to consider, but it does not make every model suitable for a particular task. The product descriptions below are manufacturer claims; horsepower figures are not independent comparative statistics, and the live pages do not give publication years for those specifications.
The ranking, from narrowest documented breadth to broadest
| Rank | Brand | Breadth shown on reviewed manufacturer pages | Best reason to put it on a shortlist |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | Kubota | Compact utility and agricultural tractor lines; mounted implements are also part of its offering. | Buyers considering compact utility equipment or a tractor-and-implement setup. |
| 4 | New Holland | Subcompact and compact tractors, plus utility tractors described for livestock and dairy operations. | Homeowners, agricultural-lifestyle users, small-scale operations, and livestock or dairy work. |
| 3 | Massey Ferguson | Subcompact, compact, utility, and larger agricultural offerings; the U.S. page states 24.5–100 HP for its subcompact, compact, or utility products. | Buyers who want to compare smaller property tractors with larger agricultural offerings from one brand. |
| 2 | Case IH | Farmall utility, Magnum row-crop, Optum, and Steiger 4WD/track families. | Buyers whose needs include row-crop or high-horsepower 4WD/track work. |
| 1 | John Deere | Compact, utility, row-crop/4WD, and specialty tractors. Its U.S. product page lists 22.4–65.9 HP compact, 50–260 HP utility, 95–830 HP row-crop/4WD, and 75–155 HP specialty ranges. | Buyers seeking the broadest documented spread across the listed classes and horsepower ranges. |
The placement of Kubota and New Holland near the bottom describes the narrower set of categories visible in the reviewed pages, not a judgment that either makes inferior tractors. The ordering also reflects the evidence available on those pages; it cannot establish the full extent of every regional lineup.

5. Kubota
Kubota’s global tractor page describes compact utility and agricultural lines, and its product offering includes mounted implements for field tasks such as plowing and harrowing. The manufacturer cautions: “Product availability and specifications may vary by country or region.” A global page therefore cannot confirm exactly which models or configurations a U.S. buyer can obtain.
4. New Holland
New Holland’s North American lineup descriptions cover subcompact and compact tractors for homeowners, agricultural-lifestyle users, and small-scale agricultural operations. Its page also describes utility tractors for livestock and dairy operations. That gives buyers in those segments relevant classes to investigate, but the reviewed description does not establish a full lineup-wide horsepower range.

3. Massey Ferguson
Massey Ferguson’s U.S. page describes subcompact, compact, utility, and larger agricultural products. It states a 24.5–100 HP range for its subcompact, compact, or utility products; that figure applies to the grouped products described on the page, not every Massey Ferguson tractor. The range is a manufacturer specification, not evidence of superiority over another brand.
2. Case IH
Case IH’s U.S. product families include Farmall utility tractors, Magnum row-crop tractors, Optum tractors, and Steiger 4WD/track tractors. That range of named families spans several agricultural applications. The reviewed page’s family descriptions do not supply a comparable overall horsepower range for this ranking.

1. John Deere
John Deere’s U.S. site explicitly separates compact, utility, row-crop/4WD, and specialty tractors. Its listed horsepower ranges are 22.4–65.9 HP for compact, 50–260 HP for utility, 95–830 HP for row-crop/4WD, and 75–155 HP for specialty tractors. Those are Deere’s own category specifications; they show breadth, not a cross-brand performance score.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose within a tractor class
Start with the work, then compare machines in the same market and class. A brand-level order cannot tell you whether a specific tractor has the capacity, configuration, or local support your job requires. Use current model documentation and local information to check:
Rank #4
- Diecast Masters | 1:87 Scale Cat CT681 Day Cab Tractor with Lowboy Trailer and Cat 950G Wheel Loader | Model 84418
- Work and capacity: Match the tractor class and horsepower or capacity to the tasks and conditions you expect, rather than buying by brand reputation or headline horsepower alone.
- Configuration and transmission: Compare the available configurations and transmission against the work cycle, terrain, and operator requirements.
- Implements: Confirm hitch category, lift and operating capacity, intended task, and manufacturer compatibility guidance. For example, before choosing a three-point-hitch box blade, verify that both the hitch and the tractor’s capacity suit that implement.
- Operator needs: Check the controls and comfort features on the exact model; a broad brand lineup does not establish how a particular tractor will suit its operator.
- Local ownership support: Verify nearby dealers, parts availability, service capability, and current model availability for your region. Support access is local and model-specific, not demonstrated by a brand’s product range.
- Evidence-backed cost: Compare purchase and ownership costs using information for the same class, market, and time period. Do not infer that one brand is cheaper to own from its lineup description.
Why no brand is ranked by reliability or total value
The official product pages reviewed describe lineups and product families, not a shared independent dataset for reliability, whole-life cost, resale, or customer satisfaction. They also do not establish a comparable dealer-support score. Assigning brand-level marks for those factors would imply evidence that these pages do not supply. For a meaningful comparison, seek comparable independent data for the specific country and tractor class, then investigate local service and parts access for the models under consideration.
