The LIVALL PikaBoost 2 is a rear-mounted friction-drive kit that adds electric assistance to a compatible bicycle. LIVALL says it can convert some kinetic energy into electricity while coasting downhill or pedaling in Workout Mode. That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independently verified range or energy-recovery result.
What the PikaBoost 2 does—and what “conserves kinetic energy” means
Unlike a hub motor, the PikaBoost 2 drives the bicycle through a roller that contacts the tire. LIVALL describes a regenerative-braking system that captures energy during downhill coasting or in Workout Mode, then converts it into electricity. In Workout Mode, the motor also adds resistance while the rider pedals.
LIVALL advertises approximately 100 W around 25 km/h and says Workout Mode typically generates 1–3% battery per kilometre. The company says those figures vary with factors including terrain, bicycle and riding habits. They are manufacturer estimates, not independent measurements. The available sources do not establish how much energy a typical rider will recover or how much the feature extends real-world range.

For the Powerful Edition, LIVALL says the remote switches between Cruise and Assist, while the app is needed to change to other modes. Assistance is described as activating once the bicycle reaches 5 km/h, so the kit may provide less help when starting uphill from a standstill.
Will PikaBoost 2 fit your bicycle?
Wheel diameter alone is not enough to establish fit. LIVALL says compatibility depends on the seatpost, tire, frame, rear rack, fender and suspension. Its support specifications give a round seatpost diameter of 25–35 mm and tire width of 25–65 mm. The current product page also lists a typical outer tire diameter range of 16–29 inches, but that is only one part of the fit check.

- Seatpost: Confirm it is round and within LIVALL’s stated 25–35 mm diameter range.
- Tire: Check that the width is within the stated 25–65 mm range and that the roller can make proper contact.
- Clearance: Check the frame, rear rack and fender for interference with the unit and its mounting position.
- Suspension: LIVALL advises against fitting the kit to a rear-suspension bicycle. It says suspension movement can make the mounting unstable and could lead to the unit falling or damage at rigid connection points.
LIVALL summarizes its fit guidance this way: “Compatibility depends on the seatpost, tire, frame, rear rack, fender, and suspension—not wheel size alone.” If the mounting space or clearance is uncertain, ask a bicycle mechanic or shop to assess the specific bicycle before installation.
Installation checks that matter for a friction drive
Because the roller drives the tire by friction, positioning and secure mounting matter: poor alignment or contact can interfere with operation. Use the latest manual and installation guide for the exact procedure; LIVALL’s manual says to use the latest version.

- Mount the unit according to the current LIVALL instructions, confirming the bicycle and mounting position are compatible.
- Secure the clamp, then check that the drive roller is centered on the tire.
- Turn the wheel and check that the tire does not rub against the unit or other parts.
- Do not ride if the mounting is loose, the roller is misaligned or the tire rubs. Correct the setup before using the kit.
LIVALL lists the unit at about 3 kg and peak power at 500 W; the company says output is adjusted according to riding mode, road conditions and other factors. Those are LIVALL specifications, not independent test results.
Range and charging expectations
LIVALL advertises up to 70 km (43 miles) with the 220 Wh battery. Its product page says actual range varies with the rider, hills and selected mode; its support material also identifies temperature, tire, assistance level and riding conditions as factors. Treat “up to” as a manufacturer’s maximum claim, not a promise of the distance a particular setup will cover.

The manufacturer’s energy-recovery figures should be read in the same way: they describe what LIVALL says the system can do, not a guaranteed battery gain on every ride. No independent controlled test validating the PikaBoost 2’s recovery claims or advertised maximum range is established by the available sources.
