It is a customized Rolex base watch, not a new factory Rolex model or an official Rolex collaboration. The brief paired a skeletonized movement with a legible dial, using Barrichello’s black, red and white colors.
What is La Barrichello?
Artisans de Genève dates the Barrichello project to 2019. The workshop says the driver wanted to skeletonize the movement without sacrificing dial legibility, and that the design draws on his signature black, red and white palette. Its official history describes the colors as reflecting his personality and motorsport heritage: Artisans de Genève’s La Barrichello history.
Barrichello’s testimonial on the workshop’s site says: “I have always had a thing for the Daytona®, and I wanted to make it my own way.” That expresses the client’s motivation; it is not a technical assessment of the finished watch.
Is it a Rolex Daytona?
Yes, in the sense that the project is based on a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 116520. Fratello’s contemporary coverage identifies that reference and describes the customized watch’s published specifications. Artisans de Genève performed the personalization; the available sources do not describe it as a Rolex factory model or an official Rolex collaboration. See Fratello’s coverage of La Barrichello.

What did Artisans de Genève change?
According to Fratello’s 2019 report, the project retains the Daytona’s 40 mm case and Rolex calibre 4130 as its base, while adding a hand-skeletonized movement, a custom ceramic bezel, a 21-carat gold rotor and a transparent sapphire case back. The report lists water resistance at 100 metres. These are published specifications, not results of an independent inspection or water-resistance test.
The skeletonization opens up the movement for viewing through the watch, while the stated design brief keeps the dial readable. The makeover therefore emphasizes mechanical visibility without presenting the watch as a wholly new movement or a separate Rolex reference.

Who made the strap?
Rubber B says it developed a bespoke black-and-red strap for La Barrichello. That establishes the strap’s connection to this project, but not whether the original bespoke strap is currently sold as a standard product or whether a current catalog strap will fit this particular watch. The available launch coverage describes a personalization with limited capacity, but it does not give an exact production quantity or establish that a watch is currently for sale. Artisans de Genève presents itself as an independent watch-customization workshop. Its current service page describes an 11-step personalization journey taking nearly 10 months; that is a general company description, not a documented timeline for Barrichello’s 2019 commission.
